Harmony test- opinions please?

Hello everybody,

I’m 8 weeks pregnant and looking into taking the Harmony test- I’ve read online and it seems quite accurate in terms of results.

Has anyone had it- can I ask for your opinions on the matter please?

Many thanks 🙏🏻 ❤️🍀🤞🏻

Hi issy both the harmony and the panorama are super accurate and they can tell you the sex of your baby too! Highly recommended. Any questions, please do ask. I have had them done for each of my pregnancies. X

in reply toMmmpudding

Oh really? Thanks pudding! I’m having a bit of anxiety these days (I’ve just booked another scan for tonight lol) and I’m scared to do the harmony- I’m not sure how I could cope with a ‘high risk’ result, which, at my age (39) is very much a probability. 🙈was thinking of doing it at 11weeks, would they be able to tell the sex of the baby already too? xxx

Yes they can tell you sex at 11 weeks 99.999 accurate. 39 is not old and your results should be ok. Being anxious is only normal and this feeling will continue to for the rest of your life 🤪

in reply toMmmpudding

Omg for the rest of my life? Are you sure? 😂😂😂

I had it done as I too was 39, pregnant for the first time and crapping my pants! It was pricey but worth it to totally put my mind at rest and risk free too (just a blood sample taken from you) Good luck xxxx

I have had the harmony test and it is so accurate and they even confirm the sex of a baby. If you are unsure I would definitely have it. It put my mind a ease so then can enjoy the pregnancy xx

Thanks Emma! Congrats on your pregnancy 😍👏🏻💕

Hi Issy. I had the harmony test during my last pregnancy but didn’t have it until after our 12 week NHS tests came back as high risk. Sadly the results did not come back As we’d hoped (hence still being on the ivf journey). I’m not saying this to scare you rather just to say that I wish I’d done the test sooner. I know how scary it is but it’s much much better to get the results (good or bad) sooner rather than later. I was 17.5 weeks by the time our pregnancy ended and although it obviously would have been devastating if it had happened weeks earlier, it would have been less of a physical thing to go through and we wouldn’t have continued to get our hopes up that we’d get our happy ending for another 7 weeks. Having had 3 MCs now I personally found this one the worst as we were so much further along.

And when YOUR results come back showing everything is OK, it will massively put your mind at rest which can only be a good thing!

If I’m lucky enough to get pregnant and get to 9 weeks again I’ll be doing the harmony test as soon as possible. Xxx

Thanks Jo, I’m so sorry to hear about what happened- must have been really hard ❤️Yes I am ready for whatever result is gonna come up, always keeping my fingers crossed 🍀🍀🍀🍀🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻💋

Thanks lovely. Yeah, not easy but I only mention it to say that whatever the result, the earlier you get it the better!

Great that you’re going to do it and do it early - definitely the right call.

I’m sure everything will be fine (the vast majority of people get ‘good’ results) but I’ll keep everything crossed for you nonetheless. Let us know when you get your good results! Xxx

I didn't have it and didn't find out the sex of my baby either. My results from my 12 week scan were low risk so I didn't feel the need to find out any more and my 20 week anomaly scan was fine too so I just didn't think any more tests would be helpful.

I think if my 12 week scan and bloods had shown me to be a high risk I probably would have done, but if all your scans come back low risk you could spend the money on something for yourself or baby instead xx

in reply toSeb9

Wow Seb, I really admire your patience! I totally don’t have it 😂😂😂😂I feel very anxious so the sooner I know things, the better it is 😉it’s only week 8 and I still haven’t got an antenatal appointment so need to get reassurance from other sources 🍀🤞🏻😉💋

The truth about the sex thing is that someone I'm not keen was pregnant at the same time as me and had her baby sexed ASAP and wrote a big social media post about how it was so she could really bond with her baby now she knew it was an xyz.... I just thought 'screw you' I do not need to know what's between my baby's legs to be able to bond with them!! I then had the mind set that I didn't need to know as it was the least important thing about my baby. I said that unless they could tell me if they'd be funny, kind, caring etc a scan of what bits they had didn't factor for me. 😂😂

in reply toSeb9

I agree, but I’m just too curious not to know (not because I need to post on Instagram) - I’m a very organised person and plan everything well in advance so not knowing would cause me anxiety ahahaha 😂😂😂

I had a missed miscarriage on my first pregnancy picked up at my first scan which was hard, but I knew that miscarriages are fairly common so although I was heartbroken I was keen to start trying again ASAP, I thought at least I knew I could get pregnant so that was a positive for me.

On my second pregnancy I was fully prepared to be told it hadn't worked again when I had a scan at 11 weeks because of spotting. I nearly called the sonographer a liar when she confirmed there was a viable pregnancy in there!! I think I just buried my head in the sand thinking that until I had 3 miscarriages I wouldn't get help so I'd just have them and then get help.

I’m so sorry about your mmc, you’re a very strong woman xxx wishing you the best of luck going forward! 🍀🤞🏻🍀🤞🏻

I had it (38 when pregnant) just wanted to rule out the trisomy and patau syndromes. DS wouldn't have made any difference to me. Once you see the baby at 10 weeks and it's more than a blob you just melt.

The London clinic we did it with did a scan at 10 wks took blood, then at 12 weeks a comprehensive scan with a dr for about 45 minutes looking at everything. Blood flow in and out of the organs, even checked the sex organs. The nhs 12 week scan basically counted limbs and then threw us out so glad that we're did it to reduce anxiety.

You don't need to find out the gender if you don't want to.

in reply toemmab178

Wow I’m a bit shocked to hear about the NHS scan! I thought it would have been a different experience- thanks for sharing, I’ll look into the same package you had (I am 8 weeks and self referred last week...haven’t heard from the hospital yet)

Glad that everything was fine for you! Xxx

Hi there,

I actually just did the harmony test.

I did it at 10 +4 weeks. I am now 14 weeks.

I’m very happy I did it, because it also helped me relax a bit and really believe I was pregnant (after my IVF journey).

So I recommend it mainly just to give some comfort if your anxious.

Good luck 🍀

I had the harmony test due to issues with previous pregnancies, the results are extremely accurate which gave me peace of mind, I had it at 16 weeks, I was offered the amino from the hospital but I’ve had that before and wanted to have the harmony as less invasive and carries no risk. Defo recommend it x

in reply toMelFa

Thank you MelFa 💕I’ve booked it 💪🏻

Hi Issylove80

I had it done at 10+1 (a week before my 39th birthday) and the results were back super quick that I actually knew on my birthday that all is fine. They email you the results within a week but you also book a follow up consultation with a very comprehensive scan at 12 weeks. Same expeirence as emmab178 above - the scan was super detailed and long as compared with a very rushed 2 minute NHS scan at 12 weeks. We did our harmony test in London, Harley Street (Fetal Medicine Centre) and they had a well priced package for when you do it in week 10 that included two scans (week 10 and dating scan at week 12) and harmony test. I think it was £400 in total from memory. Overall an excellent experience and if I’m ever pregnant again i would do it again. Good luck x

in reply toMissAP

Oh thank you for sharing your experience MissAP! Glad that results were fine and you had such a positive experience! It makes a difference doesn’t it? 💕

Hello Issylove80

First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy, exciting times!

We had the standard test done, and had the results back that we were high risk for DS and Edwards. We were offered the amnios test which comes with a small risk of miscarriage or to pay for the Harmony, which we did. It took 5 days to come back, which was the longest of our lives, but with good news thankfully, our little boy is perfectly healthy. The harmony test is 99.8% accurate and could have saved us so much heartache and fear if we had known about it before hand.

They were also able to tell us the sex with this test.

If i were to fall pregnant again I wouldn't hesitate in getting this done, its pricey but i believe you can get it done on NHS in some areas. I would certainly consider how you would feel receiving the news either way before hand, there are a lot of health risks with ds but they can do so much more now to treat these, it was the other illnesses that worried us more.

All the best, enjoy this amazing time

Xx

in reply toSez46

Thank you so much Sez46, so pleased to hear your good news!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻Can I ask what’s the standard test you said you had done which gave you bad news?

Awww your little boy 💙💙💙💙💙💙

I think we’re having a girl 💖but obviously I don’t mind either way, their health is all that matters to me 🍀🤞🏻

I’m turning 40 in July so I’m a bit anxious to get bad news 🙈🙈🙈xxx

Hey I was in more or less exactly the same situation as you age wise. I was 39 when i got pregnant and turned 40 at 14 weeks pregnant. Thats the day I got my results from harmony test that all is well. I know they say tisk is higher at our age but there is every chance all will be ok. I had it at 10 weeks 4 days but then had to have a redraw as it was inconclusive. Sometimes this happens when you have it too soon after 10 weeks Best of luck.

Aw thank you, apart from initially finding out we were pregnant, the harmony test was the best news ever!

I went in for the usual scan, but the little monkey was sitting the wrong way so the couldnt see the "gel" at the back of his neck which they usually measure, so i had to have a blood test at the hospital, and that came back with the high risk results.

Oh how exciting, i wasnt too sure about finding out the sex, but my OH face lit up when the said they could do it on the Harmony test, how could i say no 🙄😆

We were called into the hospital when they received our high risk results to discuss 'options' and i fell apart when they went through some of the info, instantly blaming myself, but, apparently age has very little to do with it, its considered more of a wives tale apparently now so hopefully that will ease your worries a little.

After that scare i kind of figured just do what you can, take the vitamins, eat well, obviously with the odd cake thrown in, keep active, rest when you can and enjoy it xx

Wishing you and your family all the best

Xxx
