Sorry if this is a silly question but is it safe to eat mince pies and food with cooked alcohol in it or best to totally avoid?? I’ve googled this but can’t find an inclusive answer

I wouldn’t worry, there won’t be much in food x

I did wonder this myself but the way I see it, if things are cooked then the alcohol would burn off. Anything like rum butter or trifle (which are my faves at christmas) I've decided to avoid x

Maybe next Christmas you can enjoy them again ☺️x

This is personal choice, but there's such a small amount in a serving it's incredibly unlikely to cause any problems.

I think if it’s cooked off it should be fine in moderation. I’m definitely eating mince pies!

Haha that’s pretty impressive! I didn’t have any cravings with my little boy (can’t blame my sweet tooth on him as I had it way before being pregnant 😂)

best to totally avoid you dont want your unborn child to have issues with their health so it is better safe than sorry

Honestly if you read the scientific reporting - a few glasses of wine here and there aren’t going to do any harm let alone mince pies, FAS is normally due to heavy drinking or an addiction. A dr friend told me reason they say 0 is because they don’t want people to go wild given that different people have very different ideas of moderation. I’m not advocating drinking but just saying don’t stress enjoy the holidays and all the mince pies and in the third trimester a glass of wine in celebration is no big deal.

I agree, Pook27. The Danish cohort study among others has produced some comprehensive research on this and has found no evidence of any harm of light drinking during pregnancy. An occasional glass of wine and all the mince pies you could want would be fine.
