Cranium fluid on 10 week scan?

Hello,

I'm hoping for some guidance or reassurance. After a previous missed miscarriage, I had a private 10 week scan yesterday. The heartbeat was present and baby was the correct size, but the sonographer was concerned about fluid around the cranium (the baby was facing face-on so she didn't get the best view of the neck but you could see a halo around the head).

She is also a NHS midwife and said that it could be nothing and disappear by the 12 week scan, but it could be a sign of something more serious. She said nothing is clear until I have a nuchal scan at 12 weeks NHS dating scan (which is booked in in two weeks time).

Just wondering if anyone has ever experienced something similar. Trying not to freak out too much.

Many thanks in advance.

Hello, I had a similar thing at 12 weeks dating scan, came back to see specialist the day after who did a new scan and saw normal brain development and didn't consider anything abnormal, my nuchal measurements were normal and all other tests came back Low risk. She also said that it's too early to detect these types of issues before 20 weeks, but I am still not fully at ease and I have a follow up scan at 16 weeks which I hope will show all healthy. I had a scan at 8.1 weeks and they did not mention the concerns then and i got a close up on the brain and I couldn't see the same black area as the scan the day before. The baby was also positioned slight off on dating scan so it may have caused it just like you mentioned. I hope it's nothing and gone by 12 weeks! Take care
