Hi, I am almost 6 weeks pregnant and thinking about my options when it comes to maternity leave. I work full time and my holidays run 1st April to 31st March. I get 20 days plus bank holidays. Our baby is due 27th May 2020 and I’m planning on working right up to this date (five or take a few days). I am planning on going back to work (part time) after 4/5 months due to financial reasons but I want to know how holiday pay will work. If I will still have all of my holiday entitlement when I am due to go back to work, it would be great to be able to use that holiday up so I can spend some more time at home. I have tried looking on the internet but it is all a bit confusing and I am not sure if I will still be entitled to my usual holidays.

Maternity leave
For me where I work I had to use up all my accrued holiday for that holiday year before my maternity started (for you not much I guess given it starts April and you go out in May) and then had to use all of my holiday which I accrued whilst off before I went back so technically my maternity leave ended 31st July but with holidays I ended up back on full pay but off work from the 1st August until the 6th September 😊 I’d ask your HR how your company works x
My holiday works from jan to December. My baby was due Feb and I used one week holiday before I went off (I just get the basic amount the government suggests).
I was due to return in Nov however my holiday worked out that I got to start in Jan. I went from 37 hours to 19 but during my maternity the holiday accrued as if I was still working 37 hours. So when I returned doing the 19 hours a week the holiday worked out to be about 8 weeks.
No idea if that makes sense but I’m sure that’s the statutory as my work don’t go over and above x
Thank you! It’s all so confusing isn’t it?! X
Lol it is! I was very happy when I realised I didn’t have to go back until after Christmas though. Nice surprise xx
That’s what I’m hoping! I can afford to have around 4 months off on maternity so if I can then get an extra month or so paid holiday that would be fab!
Hi, I am not sure if there are defined rules or if this depends on the company. With my job I started my maternity leave in September and was able to transfer all unused holidays for this year to the next one ( I pretty much worked all the way through the pregnancy so have over 20 days left) then next year when I am back (in April as only taking 6 months) on the top of last year unseeded allowance I will have full next year allowance. My plan is and that was agreed with my manager before my leave as this isn’t specific in a policy but under manager discretion to use the allowance I have transferred in the next few weeks for work less day this way I will reduce my hours for few months but still work as full time. This works for me as it will allow my baby and me to adjust without justifying my job. But as I said I don’t know if this overall rule or vary company to company
Your holiday and bank holiday will be the same as if you'd be at work, so you'll get your full annual leave entitlement for the year.
The only thing that you'll need to confirm with hr is if you will need to take any accrued annual leave before coming back to work.
