Not baby related

I feel for my sister, she’s not fat at all but does hold her weight on hips and lower stomach. She is so self conscious about this, she’s quite curvy aswell.

She never wears a dress because she can find anything too suit her shape.

Can anyone help, we have a few occasions coming up where she wants too wear a dress.

She wore a dress for our wedding as was bridesmaid and she looked gorgeous but she felt so uncomfortable. She did look big at all, but in her eyes she did.

I just really feel for you and I just some help to find what sort of dresses would fit her shape

Hi yes I can. She needs to go for a dress with stretch fabric so the dress will fit over her hips but also her smaller top area. A v neck and the wrap style dresses or dresses with slight side rouching. Small layers or pattern that maybe goes at an side angle. Just below the knee for length as girls that carry weight around hips are thicker in thighs but great from knee down. Make sure length is to the narrowest part of her lower leg which is just under knee. Stay away from self coloured and shiney materials. Hope this helps xx

What sort of style, like a smock dress or what? She’s a size 14, with big boobs aswell x

Not smock that will make her bigger. A fitted dress with stretch fabric. V neck and detail on dresssuch as print, ruffle, layers etc xx

As someone who has a bigger bottom area, I think this advice is not that usefulness.

There are no 'rules' to what makes you feel good on the inside and outside. We have no idea what shape, size or how this woman feels so to say she 'should wear this' and 'avoid that' is total rubbish.

In my opinion, it's comments and rules like this that don't help those with a little less self esteem about their body feel even worse.

I hope your sisters finds something *she* feels amazing in, for herself and not to please others.

X

I am a trained stylist with over 20 years experience. Sorry you find the information not helpful.

I will delete and remove myself from the site. It was given in good faith. I make my ladies feel good, give huge amounts of body confidence. Never ever do I not consider anyone.

Also I am two sizes bigger on my lower half than top so speak from personal styling also!

I think rather than finding something that 'fits her shape', your sister needs to find something that she feels good in. There isn't a shape of clothing that does the trick for all people. Everyone's shape and size is different so its quite difficult for people on a internet forum to give specific advice on this!

Feeling good comes from within and only she will experience that feeling when she tries on clothes.

I would also say using the term 'big' is not really indusive to feeling good about yourself.

I would also say that if she does not feel as comfortable wearing dresses, she shouldn't force herself. There are so many trendy suits, jumpsuits, skirts and top combos. Options are endless.

My advice to her would be to order several types of things that she really likes, not what she *thinks* she should like and wear to try them on and give them ago. She might surprise herself.

You could order via ASOS and use their pay for what you keep system, Klarna, so she can order a number of things and try them on in the comfort of her own home.

I hope your sister finds something she feels truly amazing in!

If she goes along to one of the bigger department stores (john lewis/house of Fraser) they often provide a personal shopper service where your sister could try on lots of different styles. You could go with her for moral support

Personally I'm a cello shape (half way between a pear and an hourglass). So I know the issue of finding dresses that fit, if it fits on my waist it won't touch my hips and if it fits my hips it super baggy on top.

I would always go for a nice skater dress, or high waisted skater skirt and crop top, it's a very girly and pretty look. But it absolutely solved the problem of finding dresses that fit and just skims nicely over those big hips (you usually need a thicker fabric for this affect). I always found Oasis and Warehouse to be the best shops for my body shape.

Not sure where you live but if you're near a John Lewis you can book a free stylist session. They really know what they're doing and don't try and sell you things that don't suit you. I was sceptical when I first went but came away with 4 dresses!

Not what you're looking for?
