'Mocktails'

Went out to lunch today and ordered a strawberry mojito from the soft cocktails menu, had the menu open on that page when ordering. Drink arrived and I took a sip, then gave a stir. Carried on with chatting etc and had another sip, thought it tasted like it had alcohol in, so left it. After a bit I started to feel a bit funny; asked my friends to try and they thought they could taste rum too. I don't like to make a fuss so didn't ask the staff just left it. When the bill came, yep they'd charged me for cocktail; not the mocktail. I really don't like making a fuss but did raise it, explaining I'd left most of the drink as it didn't taste right and had ordered the mocktail as I was pregnant. They didn't charge for the drink, but made very little apology in the way of giving me an alcoholic drink when pregnant, not happy with how it was handled but can't change that now.

Now in my anxious pregnancy mind starting to worry. I only had two sips out the glass but with it being mixed with rum, it's strong anyway. Am I worrying over nothing? I'm 20 weeks pregnant today.

Totally understand why you are upset but really don't worry. Some women don't give a toss and drink (as well as smoke) all through their pregnancies so don't feel bad about a few sips! Rightly so the restaurant should have refunded you and if you're still unhappy about the way it was dealt with get in touch with the management and just emphasise that although you got your refund it has seriously upset you and put you off the place!

Yeah - they handled it not great, as sincere apology word be expected.

But - dont feel bad about the baby- I am sure that you did not drink that much and it happened only once. (My aunty-in-law drunk heavily with all her 4 pregnancies and 2 of the children are doing good at school etc. Obviously, I do not suggest it's acceptable to drink - I think noone should be drinking whilst pregnant, but in your case: there was only like dessertspoon of alcohol in that drink) if I were you - I would not worry much.

I am sure I would feel bad about it, but worry won't help. It's done- we just need to look forward as we can't change what happened.x

you will be fine.... with my first I was drinking rum and vodka but I didnt find out straight away I was pregnant... tI was 12 weeks pregnant when i found out and as soon as I found out I gave up the drink straight away. 2 sips is nothing. try not to worry xx

My neighbors sister in law did not know she's pregnant untill she went to the hospital with what she thought was a food poisoning, but actually was a start of the labour. She lived those 9 months like normal person- sometimes going out/eating out/ drinking out.. had a healthy baby boy.

Can't believe they didn't give you a nice juice or something for free. Frustrating, but you don't need to worry about a sip or two, what with mixer and ice there can hardly have been any alcohol in the small amount you drank. The Drs have to advise no alcohol while pregnant because they don't know what the safe limit is - and obviously no way to do experiments to work this out!! But the tiny, tiny amount you drank is nothing to worry about xxx
