Hi, I had gestational diabetes and had a vaginal delivery. I’m unsure about the second question but I was told it’s highly likely I would have GDM again if I had a second child.

I think that depends on a lot of factors eg how well your diabetes is controlled and how big.baby is. Even then if you had a completely normal pregnancy without gdm there is never.a guarantee of a vaginal delivery.

As for avoiding gdm in a second pregnancy you can try your best by having a healthy diet, exercise, lose weight before pregnancy if .overweight. but sadly some people still get it despite all this as it also depends on your genetics which cant be changed.

My sister was skinny pre pregnancy and got gestational diabetes in both her second and third pregnancies. Both decent sized babies (over 9lbs I think) all three vaginal deliveries.

My other sister didn't have gestational diabetes, her second baby she had at home in a birthing pool weighed 10lbs 2oz. We have big babies in our family.

If you want a vaginal delivery I'd recommend finding the money to have a doula. She'll be able to help you through labour, get you into good positions, talk you through it, support you and advocate for you to get the birth you want. Good luck x
