Fertility issues and clomid

I have a son, 4yrs old, a pregnancy before that, that ended at 21weeks and currently ttc with baby no.3 been trying since last May, I have PCOS and had all the blood tests and scans etc... and my doctor has referred me to a gynaecologist, and she said they are likely to prescribe me clomid. I was wondering what the process is, how the tablets work, if I’d need tests while on them etc... I know I’m capable of getting pregnant, this is just a helping hand I just want to know more info and what to expect.

Hi Hunni, just thought I’d say hello 👋! I don’t have any idea regarding the clomid but I’m also trying to conceive with another blessing as I had a missed miscarriage with twins in August and it have a DC ! I’ve recently been to the doctors as my cycles for the past 3 months have gone from 6-7days to 2-3 days every 28 days which I’ve never had a problem with before and still having the cramping and backache for the past 2 months my doctor is sending me for blood tests and a scan to check my insides to see if there’s anything under-lining since the dc or if any other problem. I hope you get your bundle soon . Xx

So sorry to hear that, I lost my first son at 21weeks pregnant and that was 5years ago and it still kills me, fingers crossed we both get our little Miricles. Best of luck to you. X

21 weeks must be hard hun mine were 9 weeks they stopped but found out at 13.5 weeks so can’t imagine your pain as I still find it tough but get by as it obviously wasn’t my time and they’re sleeping together. I have been blessed as I do have 3 beautiful daughters so I’m very grateful for them as they’re my world. I wish you all the best in getting a positive and thankyou so much. I really hope so, it’s horrific at any stage, we all have plans for the babies that never made it. as a mummy it’s always hard. Keep me posted on you progress x

Hello, we conceived our little boy with clomid as also have PCOS I had to have all the tests and then a different tablet to bring on a period after which I could take the clomid. We then had a scan at 5 weeks to check pregnancy was all ok, and whether single or multiple.

In our area they would only prescribe clomid if you were trying with issues and had no other children I’m not sure if that’s the case everywhere though! Good luck

I was wondering if this would be considered under ivf (although not actual ivf) rules ... as I know the NHS will not fund if you already have a child

For us it did, we had to confirm that neither of us had any other children, we were started on clomid and told if unsuccessful after 6 cycles we could discuss other options we were just very fortunate that it did work for us

IVe been told I will have to pay for the tablets but each cycle ranges from the normal NHS prescription cost upward I was told depending on the area you live in. Being in Cheshire I can imagine it’ll be more expensive. I have one child my partner has 3 so fingers crossed they prescribe it for me. I think it’s pretty unfair if they don’t. If I pay for the treatment I should be able to have it.

The way clomid works is to induce ovulation each month . Usually there is a day 21 blood test which is done after the clomid is taken. I had to take it on days 3-7 of my cycles ( it can vary though between women) luckily I fell pregnant on it but misscarried that pregnancy .. so was put on it again after one cycle and fell pregnant again on it right before starting ivf. Some of the side effects can get quite tough ( with me was severe headaches and moodiness) but persevered with it. Xx
