Hello everyone

I am new to this forum so hello ๐Ÿ˜Š

Just wondered if I could get some advice. I am 8 weeks pregnant and since 6 weeks I have been struggling with nausea 24/7. I have had a few OK days but have been unable to do anything apart from lie still. It's so tough. I am trying ginger in tea, biscuits, travel bands. I have only been sick once and able to drink plenty and eat but it is so hard when you feel sick to eat. Does anyone have any advice on other anti nausea tricks โ˜บ๏ธ I just want to celebrate that we are pregnant but it so hard when you feel so rough.

Have a great day and week everyone ๐Ÿ˜Š lucy

I'm exactly the same lucy. Also 8 weeks and been struggling on and off for the last three. I haven't really found anything helps much at the moment but I find trying to at least eat something small like toast or a crumpet helps keep the sickness at bay just a little.

Hope it gets better soon for you (and me!)

Thank you WelshLady. I managed to get into the doctors and have some anti sickness which is helping for parts of the day. I hope you carry on to manage yours. Plenty of rest they say to which is hard when we are so used to be on the go. Take care :)

Glad to hear that they are helping Lucy. I was given some yesterday after being referred to hospital by my doctor. Turns out I have hyperemesis gravidarum and had to spend the day on a drip!

Take care, and if it gets worse get back to the doctors ASAP!

Sam

Ah Sam. Sorry to hear that. I am sure everyone is saying your in good company with Catherine going through the same. I am on Metoclopramide which I can tell kicks in within 20 minutes. Take care and hope the extra hydration helped :)

Hiya,

I am 36 weeks now but had nausea and vomiting for a long time - from about the start of 6 weeks to about week 20, when the nausea began fading. The absolute worst weeks for me were 6-16 with most vomiting then. I went back to work at around Easter and it was really hit and miss as driving about, which I need to do for my job, set off nausea and having a public-facing job all day just didn't work as when sick you need to be able to go and get a drink whenever you need one/lie down/splash face/lean over toilet/get a snack. I was back at work about 5 weeks before getting signed off again until the earliest time I could take my maternity leave - 29 weeks. It really wasn't manageable to work. None of this is the way I would have planned it!

The good news is though, that everyone is different - some women get NO nausea and sickness! For the majority of others, the nausea and sickness goes at the start of the second trimester, so about week 13. It does seem like forever to wait though when it can be so hellish having sickness and nausea all the time.

Things I tried were: Seabands (found these useless), gentle exercise in fresh air (always worked for me - until I stopped exercising, when the nausea would come back, grr), ginger in all it's various forms (did nothing for me), tablets from the doctor (did nothing really except make me fall asleep, drooling!), lying down (always seemed to help for some reason - sitting or standing made things much worse!), eating small, carbohydrate-based snacks throughout the day (couldn't tolerate any strong cooking smells, hot food, garlic, onion, etc. I could only eat stuff like buttered crumpets, toast, cereal with small bit of milk, jackets potatoes and maybe a little cheese, etc.).

There are differences in women around things craved in pregnancy, and would say to always give in to these and eat what your body is telling you to eat. It probably indicates a deficiency or just something the baby needs at that point in time. I remember that I was less likely to be sick after having had things I genuinely felt like I "fancied". For me, oranges, fresh fruits, plain yoghurt and the other carb-based stuff above were the only foods I really "fancied" when sick and nauseous. I also craved elderflower cordial, lime cordial, pink grapefruit juice and orange juice. A doctor told me - as long as you are eating and drinking something, it doesn't matter what. You just need fluids, salts and sugars.

Don't worry about following a specific diet. Also, remember you need to try and eat, even if little and often. I always found being "empty" led to the worst of my retching and heaving (e.g. in the middle of the night or early morning).

Sorry for writing loads and I hope something within what I've written will be helpful. Good luck, and hope your nausea and sickness goes soon.

Hello Claire Eliza. Thank you so much. And lots in there that I resonate with. Totally agree with lying still helps and some anti sickness tablets that the doctor had prescribed has helped slightly. I have some time booked off work as I am a nurse and 12.5hrs shift is hard. Tried one but I was physically sick. Thank you so much and. Eat if luck with the rest of your pregnancy. Exciting. Lucy :)

Plenty of sleep helped me more than anything. Few more weeks and you will feel better than ever. It is hard at the beginning. Good luck.

Indeed when your stomach is empty and you are starving it is much worse. Also it is the smells that make us sick and not the food as such.

I still experience nausea and sickness and have done since about 2 months. I am now 6 months. Some tips that work for me: keep a sick diary. Sounds weird perhaps but I make a note in my phone everytime I am sick as it helps me work out what the triggers are. Deep breathing also helps keep nausea at bay. Keep well hydrated. Stay well rested. Finally, ginger biscuits help when I am feeling off. Good luck x

Thank you. Have not tried the deep breathing so will give that a go. And great info on the sick diary. Thank you. Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy. Take care. Lucy :)

I had sickness really bad, try keep as much fluid down as possible. I just slept and slept as that's the only time I wasn't been sick! Maybe speak to GP or midwife as in the end they gave me some sickness tablets and they worked magic. Other than that keep doing what your doing. Hope it goes soon xx
