What happens next?

Found out today I am pregnant this is my first time so really have no clue what happens next. When do I ring my doctor? Or do I ring someone else? Any advice appreciated.

Hello! Congratulations!! It seems to be different in different areas but for me I have to book a GPS appointment in enough time for them to refer me to my booking appointment and for me to receive my appointment letter. I then have my booking appointment between 8 and 10 weeks and a scan around 12 weeks!

I would ring your Dr to ask about the process. I only had to fill in a form to register the pregnancy and didn't get an appointment or testing. My first appointment was with the midwife after a few weeks. Congrats xxx

Ring the gps and tell them you're pregnant and they'll advise referral in your area. I wasn't seen before 8 weeks, so in the mean time get some prenatal vitamins (boots do good deals) and have a look at the NHS website which suggests foods to avoid. Of course you should stop By alcohol and smoking

Thanks everyone, really helpful. I've been to my gp and they gave me a midwife pack so I'm going to give the midwife a ring on Monday X

Hi and congratulations! I am 5 weeks pregnant and went immediately after I received my positive pregnancy last week. I was given something called 'Emma's Diary' which was reasonably helpful and told that I would be seen for my booking appointment at 10/12 week but the midwife and would receive a letter with an appointment. (It feels like an absolute age away but still!) I live in London so it may depend upon what part you are living in as to their protocols. It is such an incredibly exciting time but goodness me every niggle sends me into a spin!
