I'm surprised you are feeling baby at 16 weeks at all. Is this your first? In general you don't feel regular movements so early.

With heart beat monitors you just need make sure you're picking up baby's heart beat not yours. If you are truly concerned call the midwife but to me this sounds very normal,

If you're sleeping on your back, you're most likely actually feeling your own heart beat and intestinal movements this early in pregnancy. As your womb shifts up and grows you'll be putting more pressure on a major artery in your lower back area as well as on your digestive system - the pressure can feel like "movements". At some point in the near future your midwife will advise you to sleep on your right side so as not to run risk of the weight of your womb pressing too much on the artery and causing you to feel dizzy or black out. If you need reassurance, best thing is to talk to your midwife but I think it's still too early for her to use a Dopla heart monitor to check baby's heartbeat. Or you can get a private "peace of mind" scan from around 16 weeks at a specialist clinic - prices vary from ÂŁ55-200. Google your nearest - we have used BUPA Spire hospital and Window to the womb...from 17 weeks they can also check gender... don't fret. I'm sure baby is tucked up just fine.

I felt the first flutters really early too. But remember ur baby has oodles of space in there they could of shifted up or away from where u are sensitive to it. Regular movements like full blown kicks etc really only happen later down the line if ur worried though speak to ur midwife she's an expert and can help u. I'm 31 weeks and a home dopelers still don't work with me xx

There is nothing to worry about, I was totally the same first pregnancy and could feel movements very early on which is unusually but because of where my placenta was located it was not blocking the baby in anyway. I felt movements for days then didn't for a few and I worried like hell but it's normal the baby has so much room at that stage you will not feel it all the time also because you get so use to it I personally felt I kept focusing on it a lot meaning I would worried at the slightest. Only worry if you start to bleed and no movements but you can always mention it to your midwife if you still feel worried.

At 16 weeks it's fairly normal not to feel your baby moving especially if it's your first. I didn't start feeling my twins move until about 20 weeks and it took a few more weeks until I could feel them every day. Even now at just over 30 weeks I don't feel them all the time but every time I've had a scan done the sonographer says they're moving lots and most of the time I can't feel it! I have two anterior placentas as well which can cushion the movements x
