Early scan didn’t detect a heartbeat. Told not to worry; could just be too early. Still worried though.

Hello,

I went for an early scan today. I thought I was 6 to 7 weeks and that at this point, they would be able to hear a heartbeat.

They saw something but couldn’t confirm a heartbeat and said it could just be that it’s too early.

They told me to come back in 7-10 days. I have booked in for 10 days time.

I’m really worried that there won’t ever be a heartbeat.

She told me today that she marked me as 6 weeks 1 day and the foetus is 5.3mm.

I’m just so worried and wondered if anyone else had this experience.

I have all early pregnancy symptoms - sore boobs, tired, nausea etc and no signs of miscarriage.

This is my first pregnancy so I’m just so new to it all and unsure.

Thanks for reading!

Hi, firstly congrats on the pregnancy. It can be very common in early pregnancy. It might just be that you arent as far on as you thought, maybe you ovulated late and it was a late implanter. Its not an easy wait but try to relax and be positive. I hope you get some good news in 10 days xx

Congratulations on your pregnancy. The same thing happened to me, I thought I was 9 weeks and would see a heartbeat at my early scan, however I was only 6 weeks and they were unable to detect a fetal pole, altho they suggested they thought it may have been there but too small to confirm pregnancy. One week later and everything was fine and heartbeat was detected and was measuring 7 weeks. I have suffered a missed miscarriage before so was very concerned. Try not to worry, good luck for next week. I am now 17 weeks.

Thank you and congrats on your pregnancy.

It’s so hard because I’m now I’m questioning everything - do I feel tired, do I have sore boobs, do I feel sick etc.

Got to get out of my head!

congratulations on you’re pregnancy 😊 try not to worry yourself the exact same thing happened to me. I was told I was about 6 weeks but couldn’t a see heartbeat and to return in couple of weeks. It was the most stressful couple of weeks but when I went back there it was. Now she is a healthy 3month old.

Good luck and stay safe x

Hi congratulations on your pregnancy. I had the exact same thing happen to me. At 6 weeks they were unable to confirm my baby's heart beat. I was also bleeding. I had to wait to week to go back and be checked again. Everything turn out great she is a healthy happy 6 month old today. Hope you have a wonderful pregnancy and birth.

Hi. I think you shouldn’t worry too much although it might be a bit hard not to. I experienced the same exact thing but my dr. was almost sure it was a miscarriage which upset me and I kept reading about this same exact situation and everyone said it would be ok because it was just too early. I went in 10 days later and everything was great. Baby is growing and has a visible heart beat. So don’t worry and stress because that’s probably what you’re going to be doing. Everything will be ok 😊 BTW congrats!!

Congrats to you too.

Thank you so much for this response.

I spent far too much time on the internet yesterday reading about a CRL over 5mm with no heartbeat means miscarriage and I’ve got myself really worked up.

I was really questioning if I’ve lost my pregnancy symptoms now too.

Tonight I’m finally getting my head in the right place and starting to just think, what will be will be.

The strange thing is, when I first found out I was pregnant, I wasn’t sure how I felt, if I was ready to be a Mum but now I’m facing the prospect of miscarriage, I’m terrified of losing it.

Pregnancy is a physical and emotional rollercoaster.

Update: I went for another scan yesterday (10 days later) and they found a heartbeat. I’m now 8 weeks so I have another appointment in 4 weeks time. Hopefully all is well then.
