I don't know the physiological mechanism however I have suffered from migraines my whole life and I am getting them in pregnancy too! Staying hydrated can help however I find if I have a migraine drinking lots of water during it makes me sick.
Maybe got the doctor and get some advice. Trying to stay unstressed is a big help!
