15 weeks pregnant
Hi, congratulations on your pregnancy. Yes it is recommended to sleep on your side, when on your back for a prolonged time the extra weight can press on a nerve and cut off blood supply making you pass out (I think that's what it was!) plus the bigger you get it's very uncomfortable anyway. Don't worry if you wake up on your back just roll over on to your side. Hope that helps x
Thanks, i have bought a maternity pillow I'm starting to show now as I am normally a size 14 so it helps but when I get back pain so move around and move it, which i then end up on my back which is the only time I get a good night's sleep
It's when you get bigger that it's more of an issue as the weight sits over a major vessel and can make you feel light headed. My physio just told me to not worry if I ended up on my back but to roll back onto my side and get up slowly. If you want to sleep on your back you can as long as you aren't flat, you need to prop yourself up a bit. I was also told not to get hung up about sleeping on the left side but to sleep which ever side was more comfortable
