I got the contraceptive implant fitted in October 2012 and had it removed in February 2014. After that I was on the contraceptive patch for under 3 months then switched method again to the contraceptive injection. The day after my injection I bled and this continued until week 9 of having the injection in my system. Due to the bleeding my health nurse prescribed me the contraceptive pill to stop the bleeding as it was interfering with everyday life. My injection is due to run out on 18th July 2014. Im 18 years old, my periods are usually so regular I can time them to the exact time they will come on. After my injection runs out me and my partner are hoping on starting a family soon (we have been together for 2 years and have all the support we and our baby could need), however after reading online I've found myself thinking "what's the point" after reading how it could take up to a year to conceive. How soon after the contraceptive injection runs out would I be able to get pregnant? I was told as soon as the next day, others have said 4 weeks, others 4 months. Arghhh helpppppp!

Should I give up my hopes of having a baby?
You haven't even started trying yet so how can you give up hope?!
Hi Demsiee, I think you may be over thinking things and overwhelming yourself before the journey has even started. Chill out. You're still amazingly young and full of youth and have a wonderfully bright future ahead of you. Don't start beating yourself up before you've even had time to discover who you are and what you really want out of life. My husband and I met when I was 22, we started "trying" a couple of years after we got married when I was 29 and ten years later I have finally managed to get pregnant. Some women get pregnant the next day, some women never get pregnant. But if you're certain it's what you want, you'll try and the baby, whether you like it or not, will pop in there when it's good and ready, not a moment sooner, nor a moment later. This is a perfect time for you to really think about whether you want children this early, whether there are dreams you want to try out before giving your life over to another so completely. But if you decide to go for it, make sure you're fit, mentally and physically, start preparing yourself for motherhood by eating right, getting lots of fresh air and exercise and getting the right vitamins. You have to have been trying for at least 2 years before anyone will even start to worry that there might be a problem. And please chill out. All this worry before you've even started is only going to make things harder for you and harder for a baby to pop on in there. Take care of you and give your body a little respite after pumping all those hormones around it. Good luck. And if in doubt, see your GP and talk to specialist in the field for young mothers. You have plenty of time. Breathe.
Take a deep breath! I'm 30, my boyfriend and I haven't been using any protection for almost 2 years and I haven't been on any form of birth control since 2009. I just became pregnant...5 1/2 weeks along. Never give up hope because you don't know what is in the stars for you! Plus...you are very young. Let your birth control run out and don't "TRY" just see what naturally happes, best advice I can give.
It took me 9 days to conceive I had the same worries I had my implant out on the 20th march and conceived on the 29th now 15 weeks pregnant the easiest think but hardest thing to do is not stress about it everyone is different wish you luck xx
I had my first child at 24 and then went on the injection until i was 31 when we decided to try for another baby, i was pregnant within a month! all bodies are different and you don't know what will happen, but stress has a negative affect on trying for a baby, keep stressing about it and it could take longer, you need to just relax and have fun making a baby it will happen
hey guys it's the 12th July now and my injection is still working but I stopped taking the pill about a week and 2 days ago and bled quite a bit to which I started taking the pill again 2 days ago which has now stopped the bleeding. does the fact that I'm still bleeding so close to the end of my injection (and probably would have continued to if I never took the pill) does the bleeding have any effect on the possibility of conception?
I know how you might feel disappointed about the time that it can take to conceive, but a year isn't long. I wasn't on the depo, and it still took me a year to fall pregnant. I do know, however, that patience is a necessity when it comes to children, so if a year of trying makes you think "What's the point?" then maybe you and your partner should have fun with your lives and forget the pregnancy - not because you shouldn't have the joy of your own family, but because it'll speed up the time and you are more than likely to fall pregnant if you are not trying. Go out, do all the things that you can't do with a young kid, and should a baby join your lives, it'll be an added bonus
