Hi there, I've not been in this situation, though I didn't have the best vaginal birth, everything went a bit wrong... but I too want another baby and would have one tomorrow.

I think elective c sections depend on where you live, some areas may be stricter than others, but I think the general consensus is it will only be done if there is a medical reason or in an emergency situation. I think, Mainly due to the huge cost of a c section and the high risk nature if such major surgery.

A section, as I'm sure many of the ladies on here will tell you isn't something they would openly choose, it's major surgery, has a long slow and painful recovery and limits what you can do fir a long time after giving birth. Bear in mind you will need an epidural, if this fails, you will need a general anaesthetic so you will not see your baby cone into the world and not have those precious 1st moments holding him/her. Also there us a high risk if other complications like infection and wounds not healing etc.

Birth is so unpredictable, but just because you had a hard time first time round doesn't mean it will happen again.

Have you spoken to someone about your traumatic time? Perhaps a little counselling or just talking about what happened will help you come to terms with it?

If you haven't spoken to someone, I think maybe you should rather than making any big decisions. I don't know what you went through but me simply talking on here helped me get over what happened and accept it.

Good luck xx

Hi,

I've personally never had a C section or anything but I had quite a traumatic birth when my 1st child was been delivered in 2008.

After 17 hrs of labour I lost nearly 5 pints of blood & if the pediatric nurse wasn't called in time to use the forceps I would have most likely being given a C-sec too.

However I've now just had a 2nd child in November 2013 & I can honestly say the whole birth experience from start to finish was completely different.

I must admit a few weeks before the birth of my 2nd child would have me in a fright just thinking about what is going to happen but now my nearly 3 month old daughter is here I wouldn't change it for the world

NICE guidelines say you can have a section due to maternal request now. That doesn't mean they won't try to put you off but if you insist you will get one. I've had 2 small to average girls who got stuck, both had the cord round their neck and got into distress. The births were similar but the second one was a lot better. First left me traumatised (long story). Now I'm having a boy and have gestational diabetes so he is measuring big. They still want me to try for vaginal delivery at the mo but I'm going to insist on a section. People have horror stories of both natural and section deliveries - there's no easy option. And the opposite, I've heard of people who've had an (relatively) easy time with sections and with natural. You just have to go with what you feel is best for you. X

Have you heard of hypnobirthing? If you ignore the name of it (really don't like the name makes it seem like some thing its not) and have a look into it. Its all about natural births and keeping mum calm and relaxed no matter what their previous experiences have been.

It might be worth looking into before youagree defdefinitely go down the c section route.

Everyone has different recovery times, but having had a c-section in November I would say the actual op wasn't as bad as I expected, and I had no complications, but it's not something I would choose to do again unless needed. The pain was bad for weeks, I was drugged up for 4 weeks and got hugely frustrated at not being able to do anything or physically even walk down the road for weeks. It was quite isolating. Just walking around the house was tough. I only started to feel able to get out and about on my own after 6 - 7 weeks. Feeling loads better now, but still have to take it easy - it is major surgery after all.

I had my first baby in September via emergency c section under general anaesthetic and we both had infections after and were in hospital for a week. It was very painful for a few days after. I was up and walking around and everything after 2 days though.....but with the infection, it took me ages to feel well in myself so I probably would have recovered quicker overall from the c section without it. C sections can be quite difficult and aren't always an easy option. I won't be choosing one in the future if I have the chance to deliver vaginally. By the same token, I would imagine if I end up with a c section next time it can't be as traumatic as this one was!

It's a tough choice and very hard for anyone.....even those with past traumatic birth experiences.....to convey their real experience as everyone is different. Such as pain threshold, patience for recovery, etc. I hate the idea of having to recover from another one as it was so frustrating being told I couldn't do stuff lol. Consider it all carefully, maybe discuss with the midwife and make the choice that is most right for you. Hope all goes well for you :)

Hiya.i've had an elective cc in august last year.i know that sounds mad to some ladies but i was so terrified of giving birth that to me it was the only choice.i hadmy first baby 9years ago naturally and it wasnt great experience. Actually it was something i didnt want to remember.we really dreamed of another baby but i was so traumatised that i couldnt go through this again.but after 8years i thought i'm ready.till i 've seen positive test.all fear cameback...i was ready to go privately if i had to.my pregnancy wasnt great as on the beginning drs thought it was ectopic so i had laparoscopy done.great beginning...not :( when i was 36 weeks i saw consultant which tried to tell me all about good points of natural labour. But i set my mind on having cc even though it was longer recovery etc.on the second visit at 38 weeks she just set the date.my midwife was on my side. And lucky i had it cos my daughter was back to back and it would be looonnngg labour again. I never regreted my desicion.i'm not gonna lie that it was easy after but i knew it and with the support from partner and our son i recovered quick. Thats my story :)
