Advice to stimulate regular contractions following waters breaking.

Morning All! I am 40wks + 4 days and my waters broke just after 11pm last night following a few contractions. After calling triage (who I then had to visit at 5am for a check of everything), I had more contractions which ended up being every 10mins. Following my return home they have eased, I have managed to get 2 1/2 hours much needed sleep but would like advice as to how I can naturally help my contractions to come along as otherwise I will not be able to use the birth centre and will be induced at 8am tomorrow. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers!

Just the usual stuff - try going for a walk. Do you have an exercise ball? I was advised to spend at least an hour and a half on one every day in late pregnancy - lots of pregnancy friendly exercises online. Good Luck!

Keep mobile don't have a warm Bath as that can ease contractions I fiund bouncing on a ball not helpful but a rocking chair was great all the best

Try and keep as active as poss..bounce on a ball..I went for a drive round where there were lots of speed bumps and quite quick..if u can walk do tht. Gd luck x

I second and third the others, keep mobile.....clean! You won't have time for it once this baby arrives....a New Years baby whooohooooooo, my brother was born New Years Day and I just missed out and got the 2nd Jan. x

Thanks all! It's been a miserable day so far so cleaned the house. Trying to stay active and hope that gravity does some of the work too.

Try to stay positive and relax as much as possible. If you are cleaning through a nesting instinct that is already a good sign. Statistically around 75% of women go into natural labor within 24 hours of their waters breaking and over 90% within 48 hours.

Remember it is your choice to be induced (not that of a mid wife or doctor, they can only advise) and just because you are booked in does not mean you have to turn up or decide to delay for another 24 hours - there are alternatives if you are set on going into natural labour like the baby being monitored daily and keeping track of your temperature. Nor can the birth centre turn you away if you go into natural labour assuming you are low risk.

I sympathize with the misery, my waters broke at 41 weeks + 1 in October. Ultimately I chose monitoring over induction, went into natural labour around 40 hours later and had my first child at home as planned.

Whatever you decide good luck, you new born will be arriving shortly!

if your waters have broke baby cauld come at any time.my last pregnancy my waters broke at 28 weeks they kept me in hospital and was monitored every day although i cauld go home for few hours knowing i cauld give birth anytime was put on antibiotics irontablets, was told if contractions came that i would have to get on all fours as it would be dry quick birth i gave birth 3 weeks later naturally 31 weeks gestation 31bs 8oz but please dont get induced as i had same prob with my daughter she wasnt monitored was told she was only 3cm dilated 14 hours later her waters had broke and she was pushing they admitted they lied as they didnt have no room in labor ward for her to give birth she delivered in corridor of the hospital i felt like crying for her

The lady hasn’t wasted her time in answering the question- as I am in the same situation now and searching for others experiences etc and have found this thread helpful. The NHS have been negative throughout my pregnancy although I am low risk and it’s reassuring to read others experiences.
