Am 30+3 and have the first of 2 growth scans today as my first was a tiny baby. Am so excited to see my little wriggler again but in a bit of a dilemma..... We don't want to know what sex it is but also don't want to spend the whole time having to keep looking away from the screen so we have agreed that we don't want to be told but if we see and it's obvious to us then that's OK. But now the day has come I really don't want to know.....but also don't want to have to keep turning away. Does anyone know how likely it is that we'll see and work out for ourselves what it is or is it impossible for an untrained eye to see? What do we do - look and hope we don't see or look away to be sure?!

To look or not to look.....
Apparently it's like a little stick but boys and girls are at different angles soi wouldn't worry too muchi wouldn't of known what to look for x
i had no idea when it came to her telling us the sex when she asked us if we wanted to know we said yeah and she expected us to know from the screen but i honestly couldnt tell till she had told us and zoomed in for us to have a closer look

Our little boy's boyhood was quite obvious at the 20-week scan, but only from a certain angle. Perhaps you could ask the person doing the scan to tell you when to look away?
Work well with the person doing the scan. Tell them to warn u when she/he is approaching they area then u can look away at those moments. Personally I don't think you'll be able to tell. Good luck
Most sonographer a will ask you before hand do u know the sex do you want to know? And most will avoid that area. I had my growth scan few days ago it was amazing a.thought not much more for manoeuvre being 36+ weeks good luck and enjoy the scan. Xx
I could tell my 2nd was a boy even though we had asked not to find out. Just tell them you really don't want to know.
I'm scanned evey two weeks, now 32+ weeks and still don't know what flavour Flump is - my consultant warns me when he's going to do a leg measurement so I can look away! It means we didn't get a 4D scan though, as we would rather keep the surprise. I've seen Flump's face in 4D though at a growth scan a month or so ago - definitely has daddy's chin!!!
We made a point of telling the sonographer straight away that we didn't want to know the sex & either she avoided this area or we just wouldn't have been able to tell anyway... Most bits that the sonographer pointed out we would never have recognised for ourselves - apart from when the baby was being shown in profile, everything else we saw just appeared as different shaped blobs to us mostly...I know someone who didn't want to know the sex but her husband was convinced he'd seen a little willy on the screen, even though the sonographer never confirmed it' so the couple told everyone they were expecting a boy and then they actually had a girl! So you can't be sure....
I've had a couple of growth scans and believe me at that sort of stage everything is so well formed and big on screen you probably won't be able to tell cuz we asked for confirmation of our sex and when she put it on that area I could make neither head nor tail of it, I wouldn't be too concerned Of accidentally finding out id say unless it's a very well endowed boy u won't be able to tell x
Thank you all for your responses, scan went well - Wriggler is growing nicely and is already an estimated 3lbs 14oz so only just over 1lb less than it's sister was at term! Is also head down already(but back to back) - just hoping it stays that way up as I guess with 10 weeks to go there is still time and space for it to flip back (daughter was an undiagnosed breech so am slightly concerned as don't want another c-sec). We certainly couldn't tell anything from the scan - all we could recognise was face and arms when in profile!
