Can I inhale Eucalyptus oil?

I am now 16 weeks pregnant and I suffer from severe migraines. I have suffered for the last five years and of course since finding out I was pregnant I haven't taken any medication except paracetamol which doesn't help anyway. After doing some research on google I found that something that can help is to inhale eucalyptus in the morning to unblock your sinuses and to help the blood flow easier around your body. I do it every morning and it really helps - if I don't do it I get a migraine again. I was telling someone yesterday about this and they said it is not a good idea to inhale eucalyptus as it could be harmful. Now looking at google a lot of people say it is highly toxic and shouldn't be inhaled!? I am so confused and really don't know what to do. I want to do everything to protect my baby and make sure he/she is healthy but I need to also try and keep my migraines at bay. Any help/suggestions please?

I suffered with bad migrains when I was pregnant with my son in 2008. Ive personally never heard or tried to inhale eucalyptus oil but it could be worth asking your community midwife about it, as she could have heard about something simular you could use which could help to ease the headaches.

The only thing I tried & worked for me is something you can buy in most "larger" pharmacies callrd "Tiger balm" . Its usually used for muscular pain & helps to take away the tension the area where you apply it. the method is to take a small amount of the "balm" with your finger and apply it to your forehead / where you feel most of the tension.

P.S The balm should never be able to enter you eyes at any time, so ensure washing your hands after every use.

xx

I asked my pharmacist if I could use Vicks and she said that was ok and that has ecualyptus in it I smothered it on when I had a cold x

Thank you both very much for your replies. I tried to stop inhaling the eucalyptus but unfortunately my migraines came back with a vengeance! I researched for about an hour on the internet and finally found a pregnancy site saying it is absolutely fine to use eucalyptus oil and to inhale it. Apparently you need to basically drink loads of the stuff for it to actually do any harm so inhaling it is absolutely fine. I really appreciate your support and thank you for taking the time to help me x
