A question about colesevelan?

Hi All,

I've finished treatment for cervical cancer, have had long lasting symptoms, a GI specialist has prescribed colesevelam. What experiences have people had with treatment?

Thanks

x

I have been diagnosed with bile salts malabsorption and have been prescribed Colesevelam but unfortunately for whatever reason it doesn’t help me at all and actually makes my diarrhoea worse. But I know many others on this forum find it invaluable. I hope it works for you

I’ve also had Colesevelam in the past, I think I was on 6 tablets a day. My gastro said it can be a bit of trial and error getting dose right and might need to be increased so keep going back if it’s not working. If they’ve established you have bile acid malabsorption they may need to tinker with dose and brands . I also tried Questran and Questran light (apparently the light version is better ‘tolerated’ by people with PRD) but in the end I seem to manage better with loperamide (can be controlled with codeine I believe) but it is very individual as to what works.

Hope this helps! x

I have had good experience with colesevelam . I was prescribed to take 2 x 3 times a day , I’ve reduced to 2 x twice a day

With out it I’m not sure where I’ll be

Hoping will work for you

Please take care x
