I’m a mom of a 13 yr old born with a CHD called hypoplastic left heart syndrome. She had three open heart surgeries prior to her heart transplant in 2010; when she was 6 yrs old. Please feel free to contact me regarding any post heart transplant questions.

Wow! That is a lot to go through at such a young age. It is wonderful she received the heart she needed.

Just want to say what am amazing journey you both have been on and how wonderful a miracle to receive that gift of life for your daughter. I too was a sickly child with kidney disease, and can relate to some of what it was like being a baby and a child going through so many ordeals and also understand what it was like for my mom and dad. It seems to make us all stronger, and filled with gratitude for the new life and wellness bestowed on not only us the patients, but the family too. Jean

Thank you Jean! It's wonderful to read stories like yours; knowing your journey started at a young age and you have continued to fight throughout your life, including a second transplant! It gives me hope for the time when Kaelyn will require her second heart (which is almost inevitable for pediatric heart transplants). I try and give her as much control over the things she can choose but yet instill the important need for compliance. She is an amazing young lady and I am honored to be her mom. Best wishes to you!

I am so happy you are teaching her to be empowered. Most important. I think I finally learned that at 37 years old as I was facing renal failure. But sometimes learning the hard way, in my case, was for the best as I became my own best advocate and can really find the medical doctors I need to help me be a better and more aware patient. Congrats to you mom and daughter. Brava, Jean
