Hi. I was put on steroid medication after having sepsis. My only real problem was I found that I bruised easily and my appetite - I gained nearly four stones.

Four stone is a lot. How long did it take to put on the four stone? Ive found my appetite is more but I fight it because its obviously how much you eat and waht you eat that puts weight on, not urges.

I came out of hospital after 8 weeks after contracting sepsis, having lost weight as I couldn't take solid foods and struggled with liquids due to ulcers in my throat Once on the medication I was so hungry all the time, eating throughout the day and up in the middle of the night eating 2 large bowls of cereals and sandwiches. it was around 3 months later that I realised what I weighed. Only managed to start losing weight and controlling my eating after coming off the medication. Best wishes.

I am forever hungry because of medication but I fight the constant urge to eat, even if I eat I am still hungry anyway. I know if I give in to it Ill become enormous.

Hi Ladywise.

Are you taking Prednisolone? Are you on a high level? 20mg and above?

I have Vasculiits and Prednisolone is the steroid i take. It is a really effective drug and is used widely for many illnesess BUT it comes at a price unfotrtunately.

All the side effects people have mentioned are very common but will go once the steroids are reduced GRADUALLY . You can not just stop taking them!!!!!

This may take some time depending on the dose.

I am sure you have googled it but please dont worry yourself too much,

I will post a link for you to look at. Please bear in mind that this is related to my disesaes but i found it very helpful.

I will also add that i have put on a ton of weight and eat eventhough i am not hungry,

I have insommnia and have been for many months. Prednisolone has affected my mood and also my bones. This is somethng that i need to monitor (DEXA scan) and take other medication to counteract the side effects of Prednisolone.

Please get advise from your GP or consultant if you have any concerns and let them know if you have any worries about your treatment and medication.

I really hope you get better soon

xx

It can give you insomnia etc. I went to acpuncture and will be doing my own acupressure to fix those things

I totally agree with you Reggie1411. It does save lives but come at a price. I have seen two cases, both had hallucination and one developed Steroid Dementia and subsequently being abused by his own son during the lock down horror. It is so sad.

Ha! We're do I start! Been on them since 2015. Still on them. Had oral steroids, IM steroid injections. Intra-joint injections and boluses of IV. They are called the devil's tic tac for a reason.

I hate them, equally they have saved my life a few times so I mustn't grumble.

They sent by blood pressure sky high when I had a short course of them. They made me very sick. I couldn't tolerate them very well. 😊

I had to take nasal spray with steroids in, and on that for about 4 months, I had a very bad reaction to it and ended up in hospital with swollen throat and neck, severe oral thrush at the back of the tongue and throat, that was back in February this year and I am still having problems with my throat and swallowing food and liquid and getting continuous catarrh sliding down at the back of my throat. Never again will I have these nasal sprays
