The reason for my writing today is to bring to your attention the problem of smoke.
Having been asked not to have bonfires by the Government, there are still some very selfish people who are ignoring this request.
Having several health issues and having survived the Covid-19 pandemic. There are side effects from the virus, the main one being extreme tiredness and exhaustion. There are others, smells, peculiarly strong smells can and do affect breathing and can take one’s breath away.
Normally in hospital, oxygen is mixed with water which helps to hydrate the throat. Without this hydration the throat becomes very dry, which causes problems after release from hospital.
People who have underlying health problems such as asthma, and who are in lockdown in their home, open their windows for fresh air. Which is then being subjected to bonfire smoke and smells that cause severe problems and pain because of indiscriminate and illegal burning of rubbish.
This needs to stop immediately and I urge you all to report the burning of rubbish.
Hoping you are all well and safe.
God bless

I know it's so bloody selfish isn't it no regard for those who might be ill and stuck at home!
Thank you for your post and very well said. My daughter's neighbours decided selfishly to have a barbecue a couple of days ago and have their parents and friends around. They don't have gardens as the houses are on a housing estate that's only 8 years old so they just have a square patio and that's it, social distancing, I don't think so, breaking the rules, yes.
So as well as breaking the rules they decided to let everyone's washing smell as well make anyone with respiratory problems feel worse. My son in law has asthma.
This angers me, it's almost like it won't happen to me scenario.🤨
At the risk of sounding politically incorrect I'm starting to wish the virus selected the selfish, inconsiderate and plain silly to pick off rather than decent, law abiding citizens. How hard is it to get paid to sit on your bum watching tv for a few weeks?? I'm supposed to shield until there's a vaccine and these people are putting us all at increased risk. Rant over. For now...
I definitely understand your frustration, this is how I've felt. I've just watched Hospital COVID-19, second episode tonight, it's heart rending.
Precisely, I'm out every day for exercise and keep away from people. I ride my bike a lot and it's so easy to keep away. My granddaughter is only 4 and is on immuno suppressants for JIA (Juvenile idiopathic Arthritis) and she's been kept away from people since before lockdown.
I have to go shopping still as I haven't had a letter yet! Luckily I'm semi rural and not many people around when I go just before closing. I'm vulnerable to all infections so my hygiene routine is strict anyway, I've just added a mask. I walk the dog too now and then often late at night when I know we won't see anyone.
I hope your granddaughter is coping, such a cruel illness.
My daughter's had a letter but didn't get it until a couple of weeks ago. She does the shopping and fortunately where she shops hasn't been too busy. Sounds lovely where you live and I'm glad you are able to shop safely and walk the dog when it's quiet.
She's doing incredibly well, she's amazing. Her condition mainly affects her eyes but the medication has saved her sight. Brilliant NHS.😊🌈🙏
Thank you. I won't be so happy once people start mixing again, I'm afraid there will be a second wave of infection. Just hope it doesn't coincide with flu.
I'm always humbled by children who can be so brave when they have such serious problems. Thank goodness she has her sight. We are lucky to have free health care.
I totally agree. I miss my granddaughters so much but I'd rather wait longer for it to be much safer when I do see them.
Children are amazing, so strong and yes the brilliant NHS have saved her sight. Here's to the NHS.👏👏

Sorry to hear about your Granddaughter.
If we all did the right thing, perhaps for just a little while, this would have been over. There are unfortunately those who believe nothing applies to them. You will never change their attitude, no matter what you do.
Fines must be significant, £60 is pathetic and if you pay it in fourteen days it’s only £30 what is the point. As I said to Ghound it will take something like a fine of £1000 to have any real effect.
Why won’t the government take a harder stand, which would give those people who have severe health problems.
There’s my rant, sorry but I’ve been there, and luckily came back!

Thank you and quite agree that we'll not change their behaviour unless it happens to them of course. Yes it everyone followed the social distancing then we would have had a lot less cases.
Totally agree with you re fines, that's exactly what I've been saying all along.
Totally agree, a harder stand is needed.
Oh no,I'm so sorry you've had it but so pleased you recovered. A friend of mine had it and she said it was scary, she had another infection on top.

I meant to say those with severe health problems who’ll have some security!
These ‘idiots’ need to talk to those who have been through intensive care in hospitals, better still be on the front line and hold the hand of someone who is dying. Perhaps, perhaps then they might think about what they are doing!
The fines are ridiculous. A £1000 might help, or remove the government help if on that scheme.
