Hello ,hope you are fine .I really have no idea of how to help cats who are outside while we could not go out to give them food .I know this may sound ridiculous but I keep thinking of cats .while most butchers are closed. If in my country Morocco .I ask such question they would definitely laugh at me .But really I feel sorry for cats .they have no home and no food .May allah help them 🙏💓

Hi bettysadki

That's really compassionate of you. Lots of animals are having a very hard time at the moment with less people to help them out and less food scraps on which to survive if they have no owners and no support.

But of all animals cats are amazing survivors. Almost all will return to hunting through their innermost hunting instincts and one thing is for certain. Where there are humans, there is vermin, and, when they have to survive, cats will hunt. It may not make them fat and healthy but it will keep them going.

So maybe that will help your feelings for them in the short term. But maybe you could also think of ways in which you might be able to help them in the future. For instance in one country in which I lived, I joined with others to form a charity to help to feed and protect them. It was hard work but well worth doing.

But thanks for thinking of our feline friends. That's a lovely thing! 🙏

I just feed a stray out my rear door without going out myself. She is very patient and waits for me. My own cat is an indoor cat and she doesn’t think to kindly of me for feeding the other one🙄🙄🙄

It’s really silky. She’s a mixture of short medium and long hair. She has tufts if hair on her ears like a bobcat.

Hi bettysadki ,

Where I live, we have a no kill shelter for cats. It's a house turned into a shelter just for adopting cats from kittens to adult. I adopted my cat from the same place back in August 2012 and she's been an indoor cat ever since she came to live with me. She's the first adult/mother cat I have had so far. She's my 3rd cat since I was a young child. :-) Do you have a place that is a no kill shelter by you? You can give them a call and see if they would like to have you become a Volunteer to help with the cats.

How can this thread go on without raising the issue of spay/neuter? In USA programs to Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) are getting much attention. Community cats can do fine AS LONG AS THEY DO NOT REPRODUCE.

Hello ,I read your message with no idea of what is TNR .Then I googled it and watch a video on youtube :step by step guide to trap-neuter - return .It is really humanistic and shows how kind those people are .when they insist on covering the cats so they do not feel afraid .I have only one question why cat not to reproduce .there will be no kittens .can you explain to me this please

I know this is a month ago but I thought I would reply. Feral cats are neutered precisely to stop kittens, to stop the growth of large colonies. In Australia they are talking about killing them 'en masse' because they are endangering indigenous wild life. They don't have a place in the natural wildlife order, they are a nuisance born of people abandoning pets.

And spare a thought for people like me. I like cats but can't go near them as I am VERY allergic. As in dangerous asthma attack.

A few years ago we rented a villa in Spain, checked it was 'no pets'. What we found was that previous renters had fed the feral cats, the request to feed them had been passed from renter to renter and there were, literally, dozens of them. We couldn't use the outdoor cushions as they had cat dander on them and fleas! And in the evenings my husband had to try to scare them off the property if we wanted to sit out. In the beautiful Spanish countryside I was stuck using high doses of my asthma inhalers.

When we complained to the agent she said, 'but there are no cats here', so we showed her the photos.

Keep cats if you love them but don't encourage feral cats.

Sorry, I know this is a very unpopular view, I wouldn't hurt feral cats but I think neutering them is very important to stop the colonies growing.

Hello ,I hope you are recovered and you feel better ,no problem if they treat them well .If they are homeless they suffer so better for them to not produce more kittens .I love the cats and I spent my childhood raising them .But it was terrible as my lovely cat was fertile .to the point were we could not clean their dirts it was a bad experience .

Tenerife had a major feral cat problem but several charities set up a trap neuter return programme and that has been successful, the returned cats defend their territories and prevent interlopers coming in and yet don't breed litter after litter of kittens. The few that are still intact provide a smaller "replacement" population, who then have to be trapped and neutered and they seem to have got the balance about right.
