pred drop again, here goes.....................

Hi everyone, hope you are all doing ok.

After being back up to 20mg of pred for 2 weeks I eventually reduced to 15mg yesterday. Now normally I would not go by 5mg but it's what the rheumy helpline told me to do. And I know it sounds daft but I have my rheumy appointment next Tues so if does what I think it will and bring my pain back well at least the rheumy will see for himself that I can't get down on the pred. He should be reviewing my MTX which is not working as it should, so either will change to injections or he will add another DMARD or both.

Today I am not to bad apart from my legs but going to try and walk to our local Co-op and iceland, take the kids in the cafe for lunch and get iceland to home deliver what I buy. I will get a taxi home if I have to.

I don't want to over do it as tomorrow I am up early to go to Melton mowbray to view a school for my son so I don't want to be in pain and unable to walk.

This morning I was catching up on facebook groups and someone had asked about fur on the face. Well I must not look in the mirror that often cos this morning I was checking my hair as it's going very thin and the light caught my face. WOW I have very fine hair sprouting all over my face and I don't like it at all. I can see me becoming a hermit at this rate. Really hoping they sort out my meds and some of these silly side effects go away.

Now on a brighter note to make you all laugh. You all know about my beautiful dog Harley? Well he has decided that he is very clever and jumps onto the trampoline. He then walks around the outside of the safety net til he finds the opening then lies on the trampoline. He will let my 7yr old bounce on it with him there. However he has also ripped the safety net and now sits on it just chewing what he can of the net. We can't tell him off for laughing.

Keep smiling

Sue

Susan!!!!!!!

The drop's too much, too soon and I believe you've been here before? I hope your rheumy agrees and, by the way, I hope you're not back in bed after your shopping trip etc.

On a much lighter note, yes the hairyness is such fun isn't it? As I 've said before - hairy face, a very fetching 'tash, ginger side burns, and hair all down the back of my neck and over my shoulders like a cape. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry so I laughed. Then I bought myself a 'lady shaver' which, by the way , was just not up to it at all. It broke - just fell to pieces, so I used disposable razors and spent many a happy half hour shaving away. The back of my neck and my shoulders were the worst to cope with, but I managed and, gradually it all went away. So, don't worry.

You know, Harvey's just sitting there, showing off because he's picked up on the fact that he'll prob be famous one day.

On the down side - you are going to have that net to mend.

oh Pats, after my stroll to the co-op I could barely walk home. When home I sat on the sofa and fell asleep within 5 mins. I won't be doing that again in a hurry. My son who is almost 14 says he is buying me a mobility scooter for my birthday lol. I explained that I did not want to be dependent on one as I was not old enough. He said it didn't matter how old I was cos I was walking to slow and needed one.

Hi Girls well did not know about the hairy backs and face, what have I got to look forward to then, am now on Alendronic once a week and boy did I have some weird side effect from that I thought I was floating and the feeling of sickness was really bad could not focus just felt really ill, did not know were to put myself but after 7 hours it subsided quite a lot, also put me on codeine sulphate and paracetamol for my back pain and after taking for a few days it takes the edge off the pain, does not take it away completely,

to day have spent a lot of time on the sofa half a sleep half awake, have not been out with the dogs for a few days, full of good intentions first thing on the morning but then as the morning turns into afternoon and before you know it it night time, got to make myself tomorrow,

My friend Carol has a lovely black scooter I,m thinking of getting one and racing her up & down our high street see witch one of us can break the speed limit what do you think girls.

went to Docs the other day he,s taken bloods again ESR,s down from 25to 16 yipeee so he said stay on 25mg.s for the rest of the month and we will see about reducing them next month, been on 25 since 6/2/ and bet he wants me to go to 20 next month, but after listening to every one on this site I think it might be a good idea to reduce by one or two mg.s not 5 what do you think girls?

Do not know what the weather is like down in the midland and the south but its B freezing up here in the north,we had a lovely day yesterday sunshine almost all day the dogs and the chickens really enjoyed it they were all playing in the garden it was lovely to see.

Well girls not looking forward to Saturdays at the moment due to the Alendronic but hoping it will get easier as the weeks go by,.

Dont know about you girls but my memory is dreadful the last 10 months with the steroids does it affect anyone else the same? have to right every thing down now,,my Doc still has not mentioned a rhomy yet and when I saw him this week I forgot to mention it.well must sign off as I am getting quite dizzie now .Anne (ritter)

I have no problem with the alendronic acid but yest again no side effects with any apart from the pred witht he weight gain and furry face.

My boy who is almost 14 has special needs so it was very thoughtful of him to even consider how I felt bless him.

Hi All,

It's not that long ago that I was casting longing glances at the mobility jobbies - I mentioned them to my partner, but all I got was a long silence which I interpreted as ' let's not even go there.'

Let's face it, we've just got to keep going, but pacing ourselves as well, and going down gently with the drops is the way to go I think. We must keep those leg muscles going - good for the heart and lungs as well. Mind you, I might feel differently if I didn't have a car so understand your lovely son's concern Sue.

I found reducing from 30 to 20 mg quite easy. I did it in 2 drops of 5mg in a few weeks. The problems with reducing started after 20mg and I found it best to only reduce by 1mg every 2 weeks or so, but it varied a lot depending on how I was feeling. Sometimes less time and vice versa.

See how you go with the AA Anne, but there are alternatives so don't put up with discomfort for too long. As for pred effecting memory - yes I believe it does, but it's not permanent, it will improve. Mind you, I've been writing everything down for years!!!!!

As for the ' hairy mary' look - well this is my take on it - Pred just loves to wind us up doesn't it. It may grab some hair off your head just so it can dump it anywhere you don't want it, but as I said, I got rid of mine with relative ease. Just keep at it. It soon goes as the doses come down. I wish I could do the same with the fat! I'm only a few pounds over weight now, but boy, doesn't it know just where to stick it for a joke?

The weather's been quite dry and often sunny in Devon lately and, after all that rain, it was so lovely to see - makes me glad to be alive.

Now Girls, Crufts starts today on More4 at 6.30 pm and even though I am not a dog owner YET, I shall be watching. I wonder if you will be too?

Pats.
