Withdrawal from Predisolone symptoms

Yesterday felt very strange - not quite dizzy but almost so and a bit nauseous. Had reduced dosage from 7mg to 5mg over previous few days - could that be the cause. Have been on Pred now for 2 and a half years! Any thoughts would be most gratefully received!

Good morning,Recommended on low steroid dosage, which you are ,that reduction should be by .5 at a time .Speak to your Dr. about it .Your "drop"was high.Good luck .Not good to go up and down.Have commented on another question this morning. You may find it helpful.Keep on trucking!!!!God bless .Hugs .Sue

Maisie - that's a very steep drop over just a few days and could well be the reason for your reaction yesterday. From 10mgs down, you should never reduce by more than 1mg a month at the very most as the body will rebel as you have found. The lower you get on the steroids, the higher the percentage drop, so when you get to 5mgs, it's wiser to reduce by just 0.5mgs in order to try and avoid flares in the disease. I do hope the diziness and nausea is improving.

Hi Maisie, I agree with Soojay and Celtic, I've been on Pred for 2 years in December and have struggled every time I get to 5mg. I now know 1mg drop is too much for me, so I drop .5mg every month. I'm going down to 4mg tomorrow and from experience it will take my body about five days to adjust, the pain comes back but I battle through it and it all seems to settle down.

I did get down to 1mg at one time but could hardly walk up the stairs so the doctor increased me back to 5mg, this is when I decided to try the .5mg a month, it is definitely something you have to control yourself and listen to your body. It's tough so good luck.
