Hi Noreen,
You sound so worried and I would be too. As your original loss of sight was so sudden could you not go to your nearest A&E and explain? If that's not possible then at least phone your GP and he can surely help.
Just a thought, do you see an optician regularly? I have my eyes checked twice a year at Specsavers. They have the very latest equipment and, if this is the lense of your eye clouding a little,it will be seen. They can also check pressure in the eye and look at the blood vessels in the retina. I do not have GCA but I am always vigilant.

Yes Pats, I can vouch for Specsavers...they were so thorough when I asked for a sight test to see if there was any sign of a problem as I had been having a swollen tongue, headache and jaw pain all on the left hand side of my face, the ophthalmologist was fantastic and so so reassuring. Julie
THANK YOU yes have had all eye tests and seen spoke to DR i am sure just me panic thought some one may have had same thing happened and lived to tell tale some years on.Hence stop this daily fear .Thank you
Noreen,
So glad to have helped along with everyone else who came in. If you feel less worried then , surely, so do we all!
As Solon as there was an indication of GCC my rheumatologist looked everywhere for an optician to chech my eyes and my field of vision. I had told him the name of my optician I go twice a year to chech the eye " bottoms". To tell the truth I think my rheumatologist phoned her at home and she squeezed me in a day later. The field of vision is not as it should be.
But it can also be a result of a big brain surgery I had 15 years ago.
Since then I have mostly used audiobooks when reading. My eyesight is fine but it is to hold the text steady that is difficult. The optician wants to me again on Nov. 19th 5 week later.
I find that I well looked after, bloodtest every two weeks.
Thank you all for help , i have had eyes checked and new glasses ,itis four months now since loss of sight ,i am very lucky have a great team at local practice who watch and test bloods ,i am almost sure it is just my owe fear ,so fgingers crossed will keep going .
Hi. I lost my sight in my left eye 2 1/2 years ago. It happened suddenly to me when I was on holiday in Spain. Luckily I was close to Cordoba hospital where I was admitted for 10 days and received amazing treatment. As long as you have your good eye checked regularly and take action if you get any severe headaches or flashing lights, everything should be ok. My optician and Rheumatologist said that it very rarely happens to both eyes, which was reassuring. I am on 13 mg of prednisolone reducing by 1 mg a month. I find the reduction has to be much slower with GCA. One of my greatest fears when it happened was that I would lose my balance and not be able to ride my bicycle, but everything is ok, and I still go on lovely rides which keeps me fit. In fact I am writing this from yet another holiday in Spain where I find the winter sunshine the best medicine of all. Good Luck. Heather
Coping better now ,just had a fright getting a sparkle in good eye now Ophthalmologist put me on 40 mg for three days back on 5 mg now just in case ,so fingers crossed .TAKE CARE
Thank you yes i still live with the fear at the moment ,but it is getting better i it is good to see you are getting on with life ,I had walking problems so cannot see me riding bike .
I am on predinslone 10.5 now and on METHOTREXATE 15MG each week so fingers crossed feeling better ,have some days when so tried ,hope that will pass .
