Refered by rheumy physio for steroid injection into shoulder/s. Can someone experienced tell me how long I might have to stop driving for?
hi i havnt had this injection in my shoulder but i had one in my wrist and it wasnt too bad after 48hrs i dont mean to put a damper on this for you but it didnt work for me, good luck i hope it works for you

I have been fortunate when I have had steriod injections - had them in my elbow and shoulder, Rheumy has always recommended taking it easy and not using the joint too much for 24/48 hours. I did drive, but no distance. You need to give it the opportunity to work to get the benefit.
Hope you get the relief, I did continue with pain relief too, and just used a pillow at night to support my shoulder in the best position.

Good morning, my rheumy also injected my shoulders with steroids. Previously I could not get my arms around my back to do up my bra etc. Now though, my arms, although not working perfectly, are pain free and doing what they are supposed to do. Also, after initially starting on 30mg Prednisilone, I am down to 12.5, this is the last day so tomorrow I start on 10mg. Not looking forward to the change but have found during my reduction period, that after about two to three days, I am fine again. I like my rheumy and have access to her clinic whenever I feel the need. Except for weight gain, I feel like one of the lucky ones, and hope I do not crash. Hope this might help. I still do feel tired in the afternoons, but in the morning am able to go about my usual routine with little or no fuss or bother. It is a good feeling. Long may it continue.

After 10mg I could only drop by 0.5mg. On the higher doses, from 20mg down to 10mg I could only drop by 1m per 2 week period. See how you go. Don't be suprised if you cannot drop by 1mg at a time. I have never had any injected steroids, but have been slow in my overall reductions and it has worked so far. 10 days ago I dropped from 8mg to 7.5mg and today, for the first time, I have had no pain. To combat the pain with injected steroids would have needed injections in many parts of my body. It would have knocked my immune system out, but by slowly reducing, I have got there.
I have just seen Jani's reply and I realise that I am doing quite well. No wonder my rheumy says she is happy with my progress.
We are all different in our reaction to steroids. Just listen to your body.

Thanks for your input. I have just come back from from the local hospital and the rheumy thought that as I am quite a bit better in the arms as of last week, due to my GP upping my Pred from 7.5 to 12.5 4 weeks ago, that we might reasonably hold off from injecting just now. He told me that the hospital is now in line with the most recent guidelines and that the trend is to reduce very, very slowly, coming down 1mg every 6 weeks after 10mg has been reached. He also said that, like you, I can go down to 10, but in 2 weeks from now. Must say I thought I had put on about 5/6 pounds but since going on a higher dose the pounds have piled on. Think I'll just stay off the scales. Too depressing. Good luck with your starting your reduction tomorrow.
