Cortisol Result

Hello PMR ExpertsI've had the result of my 9am cortisol blood test done this morning. It says value 545. Is this good and means I can maybe slowly come of pred? I've been on 1.5mg for 8 weeks with no problems. I had to fight for the test. The surgery didn't seem to advocate them and GP seemed at a bit of a loss although she did eventually agree to one. Many thanks.

That is pretty good and yes, your adrenal glands seem to be working well!! So if the PMR allows - you can reduce the pred.

Oh thank you so much Pro for your swift response. That's put my mind at rest. Will give it another month and see if PMR allows me to drop to 1mg.

This is reassuring that adrenals can return to good function as pred dose gets below a certain point. I hope mine do as well as that when I get low enough 🙂

If at 1.5 mg I personally would only drop a max of .5 mg. 1mg drop at your level is alot.

I always drop by 0.5mg and each drop takes months as I'm ultra cautious. Working well so far 🤞

I apologize I thought you were dropping 1mg. I too did the dead slow and then took anywhere from 1 mos to 3+ before another drop.

2yrs prednisone free.

Oo so pleased for you. Well done. I was on 2mg for 18 months partly due to a non union humerus break in left arm. Still not healed and probably won't ever be. 🤔Best foot forward!

That is probably why your adrenals have kicked in so well. I think you will do fine. Sorry about your arm.

Thank you. I'm now back driving so my independence is back thankfully, with my little automatic.

Glad you asked about that. I want to have mine checked. My CRP is within normal range for the first time in 3years. This Covid will probably mess that up,

The bore is driving to the surgery for just before 9am. Nurse said if one's late, test is cancelled!

Yes that's very good, anything over 400 is good news
