Hi everyone, I won't say I am glad to be back, but I am so glad you are here. Just been diagnosed with my 3rd round of Pmr. My 1st round was ten years ago and was on Pred for about 6 years. The 2nd round was only a couple of years ago, but I think my over zealous Dr forced me of Pred too quickly and it is back again. My question is as I can't remeber, how long does it generally take Pred to start working for horrendous Shoulder and Upper Arm Pain. This is my 3rd day on it and not much improvement so far.
Thank you, Jenny

Hi and welcome back - even though I do wish you didn't need to be here.
All I can say is that everyone I know who has had it 2 or more times says that every episode was different so I think that means you might have to wait and see. My original response was 6 hours, some have had 12 hours - and some needed more like weeks.
What dose have you been started on? Any idea what doses you had the other two times?
Hi PMR pro. Thank you for your quick response. I have been started on 15mg. The 1st time was 20mg and the 2nd time was 15mg. On the second day I thought things were looking better, but today (day three) I seem to be back were I started.Isn't it wearing when you thought you had seen the back of this horrible illness?
Dunnno - I've never got to the stage of seeing the back of it!! It flares up again before I manage to get off pred!!
Did you remember to cut back on activity that aggravates the symptoms? Can you remember whether you did better last time? I'd be inclined to say you probably needed to start at 20mg again - but they seem even more scared of pred now than they were a few years ago!
Thank you PMRpro, I will have to see how it goes. I have got to ring Dr on Tuesday so will see what he says then. It is just nice to have the support offered here.
My grandaughter was there mid afternoon - bless her, it is her birthday and they should have been going out for a meal. The restaurant wasn't open but were offering deliveries - pity the poor sod who was going to have to drive! However that didn't help as the family is in 3 different locations!
Others have said previously that a second or even third time with PMR is not the same as first… so hope it’s an easy/easier ride, if it’s any consolation [and it’s probably not!] at least you know the drill… 😊
