I am 83. Diagnosed with PMR in mid-July 2024. Former distance runner. Work out one hour each morning, so in relatively good shape and not overweight. Have had asthma all my life.
Started on 20mg dose; dropped to 15mg in mid-August and 12. 5 mg in early Sept. So far no reaction to reduced dosage and pain remains limited.
Fortunate that only side effect is mild disorientation - but this is important. I think the disorientation is actually heightened sensitivity to sunlight. Buying new sunglasses. Just wanted to share this observation. No other side effects,

I have been on Prednisolone for GPA just over two years now with the daily dosage up and down dealing with flares etc.
Like you, I suffer from disorientation/balance issues which I have had to adjust to. Not sure if this is due to the Prednisolone or inner ear problems? I need to wear sunglasses outside all the time as my eyes are definitely very light sensitive nowadays.
I found my disorientation was due to the subtle changes in the eye muscles that caused my focusing to be less responsive to change, particularly when in motion like walking about. In sun I needed strong sunglasses too. I felt best when sitting still and looking at one distance which isn’t practical. My optician confirmed this to be expected and would decrease with dose and it did.
