Prednisone question

Hi all. I am curious about the best time to take Prednisone? I have GCA and have been taking it when I wake up for the day, but I'm curious about how others are taking it to be most beneficial?

Early in the morning with breakfast is usual. I usually have broken nights so I take my coated tablets in the early hours. I wake up less stiff that way and it coincides with the release of cytokines ( inflammatory substance) in our bodies and it deals with that at the point of pain. It would disturb sleep at night.

Usual advice is in morning, with or after food… and provided dose is sufficient to control symptoms and lasts 24 hours then that’s fine. Unfortunately it doesn’t always work out that way.

A study found the ideal time to take pred to minimise morning symptoms is 2am for prednisone and 3am for prednisolone. That obviously results in disturbed sleep for some. Otherwise, as early in the morning and as soon after 4am when the inflammatory substance are shed as possible gives a good result.

Hi fellow Canuck! I took mine in the morning with breakfast. Worked well - no problems. Good luck on your journey.

Early on, I tried taking it at 2:00 AM but waking, walking and returning too bed outweighed and benefit which I personally didn't notice, though we are all unique. Since, I've always just taken the dosage with the morning pill offering. Wishing you well💞

Except for the very early days I took mine around 02:00, with some Greek yogurt and often a banana, and it worked well for me. Normal mornings and lasted for the full day.

I also take my Pred between 2 &3 in the morning with a small snack. It is working well.and doesn't interfere with other drugs I need to take during the day.

Hi.. thank you for your response. I have only been taking it between 2 or 3 am over the past 4 nights but I like it so far. It's nice not to rush in the morning or worry about taking it on time. I'm sleeping better too because I am tired when I go to bed.
