How do You split your Pred dosage?

Hi,

If you take two doses of Pred each day, please tell me how much (%) and when do you take your split dosages of Prednisone?

Splitting the dose came up in my recent thread and I am looking into doing it.

Thank you!

Usual advice from experts on dose splitting is 2/3 and 1/3 the level at night is lower which benefits sleep and, at later stages, the return of adrenal function.

Most take morning dose with/after breakfast… and evening dose anywhen between late afternoon to early evening … really depends on individual

The inflammatory substances are only shed in the body once a day, at between 4 and 4,30am. The ideal time to take a single dose is 2am for prednisone, 3am for prednisolone so it is at its peak in the blood as the inflammatory substances appear and then they don't get hold at all. Then the effect lasts all day - but varies from 12 to 36 hours.

Explained in this, along with other things -

And to add to DL's post - sometimes even taking the 2/3 of the total pred dose with breakfast and the rest with lunch is enough to extend the effect, There are no hard and fast rules - everyone is different and a bit of experimentation will achieve the best result for YOU.

Hi, I split my dose for many of the years of taking pred, until I managed to taper to 5mg and could take one pill. I took about 1/3rd at night with water and the rest with kefir first thing in the morning.

Retrospectively and having been diagnosed with polyps throughout my digestive system I probably should have taken the nighttime dose earlier and with yoghurt or something. But I needed to be able to get my act together in the mornings and it was working for me.

These little white pills seem so innocuous and do such a good job at controlling the inflammation, I think I ignored the risk of side effects. I have come through eight years of PMR , 71/2 on pred, relatively unscathed, but it does seem to have damaged my digestive system. Please just be aware, xx
