To increase or not?

We finally had a sunny, warm day on Sunday, I went and overdid in the garden, now suffering the consequences with siftness, soreness and achiness in all the places that us PMR suffers are prone to and of course some DOMS as well.

I was woken at 02:30 today with pain, siftness and the feeling that I needed to move about, so took a walk around the house; this helped a little. Back in bed couldn't get comfortable and finally at some point went back to sleep.

I have now been at 3mg of prednisolone for over 4 weeks.

My question is should I try a higher dosage of prednisolone for a few days to hopefully resolve the issues? And if so what dosage? I am thinking 5 to 8mg? And for how long?

Thank you.

The question is - is it doing too much (very probably) or the PMR (possibly) or both (possibly). Increasing the pred doesn't usually help with DOMS - just time and rest.

Ditto to PMRpro’s comments -sunny days and gardening has a lot to answer for! Pacing applies even more to gardening where you don’t “warm up” beforehand as you would if you were doing other forms of exercise -apt to just “go for it” ..

And think just a few minutes more that turn into half hours ...

Thank you for your help in me deciding what course of action to take. I have taken my regular 3mg dosage Prednisolone and about an hour later a couple of Paracetamol, I am getting some relief. Now to not overdo today! 🙂

Excellent - wait until the aches recede before doing more!

Snap! I too went rogue in the garden and am in trouble today. Personally I never increased Pred and let it ease off over the following week. Of course it’ll hurt where the PMR hurts because it’s part of the musculoskeletal system that is caught up in the action when one does too much. I found in the past that Pred didn’t help with DOMS; I got it even when on higher than PMR doses.

Lots of us guilty of that! I would take the painkillers first and see how you are in a few days.

Hi Sidra1968, Thank you for responding. I did exactly that, took my current dosage of Prednisolone this morning then took a couple of Paracetamols an hour later, thankfully getting some relief. Sometimes it is difficult to know what to do, I am so thankful for this forum.
