the best relief I have for PMR pain is always distraction!! and increasing the pred dose for a flare always has such consequences on my mind and body that I try to not do it as much as comfort would push me to.. I have at least learnt to slow down with a flare and not try to push through it..

has anyone experience of hypnotherapy (learning to self hypnotise) for PMR pain?
Not for PMR pain, no. I have had hypnotherapy in the past for other pain (muscular mainly) and found it brilliant 😊
Hope you find something that helps x
I have a friend who is a hypnotherapist and she says it does depend on the individual being hypnotised too.
I often do a self-healing technique I learnt as a Pranic Healer many years back. I've used it often at the Dentists rather than have an injection and it has confounded the Dentist. I guess it is similar to self-hypnosis. At the start of my problems with PMR I tried it but was overcome eventually. However, now my PMR appears under control with the Pred, if I wake too early I sit up in bed and use it as a form of meditation, and I often just drift off back to sleep.
It involves a form of mantra/prayer calling down certain colours down to the Crown Chakra and imagining that colour following down through the spinal column and out into the body to eliminate pain.
Hi I am a clinical hypnotherapist and use self hypnosis regularly....it didn't help with the PMR since the pain itself can distract from entering the trance state. For example suggesions to relax your limbs may not be practical. You wld be better off with an appointment with a qualified hypnotherapist for recorded hypnosis session to listen to specifically for pmr pain relief. Hypnotherapy promotes relaxation healing better toleration of medication and a belief in recovery...so very good for pmr good luck
