Swam today for the 1st time since diagnosis

I swam this morning! the first time since September 23 (I was diagnosed in October and put on 15mg, now down to 10mg) this is a big deal for me because up until September, I was county champ (for my age group) and swam approx. 10k/week, I swam just 750m over 90 mins today only front crawl and breaststroke (my shoulder wouldn't let me do backstroke) I've left Butterfly for another day. I was coaching my 11 yr old granddaughter (she's a club swimmer). We had plenty of breaks and had so much fun. I'm now resting, the funny thing is my lower backache has subsided, my shoulders felt stiff and achy afterwards but even that's subsided, however my lats and chest ache, but I'm resting now though, don't want to get carried away! We are going to Munich for a city break on 22nd Jan and I'm not going to taper until we get back, I don't want anything jeopardising the holiday. This group is great, I've learned so much from you all.

Here's to 2024, good luck to us all!🤞

hi, I think you are right in leaving tapering until after Munich. We were there early December when there was a massive snowfall and public transport stopped running. Our flight home was cancelled and we ended up coming home the following day with KLM (should have been Lufthansa) via Amsterdam.

We did love Munich

Picked your weekend didn't you!!! I took my daughter and partner to Innsbruck airport on Saturday, left here very early in case of traffic jams and spent the afternoon at Innsbruck's xmas market - they keep one open until Jan 6th. No problems coming back. Would have been a whole different matter on Sunday at the same time, there was heavy snow and the roads were horrendous, even here.

When we checked the forecast it said light snow!

I seem to remember they underestimated it rather!!

They did, we were there for a week and the snow fell on the Friday evening and no more was forecast so I thought that as our flight was on the Tuesday we would be okay!

How long did your trip from home to Innsbruck airport take, please? Hope you had a wonderful time with them visiting you! Thanks!

It should take 1 1/2 hours - using the motorway on a civilised day, Certain tourist weekends are horrendous and during the week it can be a bit bunged up because of lorries. I almost always use the low road since it is free - the tolls are 11 euros for the Europabrucke and the short section of Italian motorway is 2 or 3 euros (no idea to be honest as I have a Telepass and never look at the bank statement!) The low road takes 2 hours or so but you can stop anywhere you like, there are shops and I just like it.

It was very nice yes - I'd been a bit uneasy, both of them have ADHD, one at a time has its moments, both together can be interesting! Above all trying to get out at a specific time or getting a decision ...

Oohh lovely, it will be our first time, I’m hoping for blue skies and snow 😂 do you have any recommendations that we shouldn’t miss?

I suspect snow might be in short supply - so don't be disappointed! Very much depends on how much Foehn they get - the wind they call the hairdryer!

Marienplatz is the centre and lots of great places round there.

We wanted to go to the Hofbrahaus but the day we chose to eat there was the same day as a big football match and all the supporters took over the place. Considering it is on 3 floors with great big halls they obviously knew wher3 to go. It is worth a visit as watching the great big glasses of beer being carried around by German ladies in Bavarian dresses is amazing.

The Englischer Garten is a nice visit and the photo is of there.

We went on a day trip to Nuremberg which was lovely. The churches are good to visit as well

Great thank you, great recommendations. we have tickets to watch Bayern Munich and we plan to visit Dachau. 😊

There is a very good museum as well the Deutsche museum. Public transport was very good apart from while we were there with the massive snowfall and I think Dachau was on the SBahn. We went to the main station and bought a weeks ticket so we just carried the ticket around with no need to validate it. We were lucky as our hotel was on the Sbahn line and very close to the station. The ticket could be used on Ubahn, Sbahn, bus and tram. There was an information place at the airport I saw on the day we went to the airport to sort our return flight!

The Galeria is in Marienplatz and was worth a look around with the restaurant there providing good quality food.

We’ve done all those and also recommend them. We were all just pre-covid, in a packed out Hofbrauhaus squashed together on benches eating mountains of carbs and sauerkraut. It was great. It was chuffing cold and windy. We went to the toy museum which is either creepy or delightful depending on your sensibilities.

Once I can get moving my low back pain improves dramatically - but the process of getting moving is so painful it doesn't happen as much as it should. I've found a couple of ways to get the pain undercontrol but they met with disapproval from the Pain Clinic. Still trying though. Glad it has helped you - and hope tomorrow there is no payback.

Yes you’re so right, I’ve not done much because of my lower back and now it’s eased off it’s amazing . I hope there is no payback tomorrow, I’m expecting it though 🤞

Update: I felt fine all day, coached at the swimming club last night and slept 9 hrs. Today I feel fatigued and achy upper back but no pain. I’m resting today.

I just had a good heart-to-heart with my rheumy - and he is taking the back pain into his hands! We commented that only a (good) rheumatologist can understand the impact severe back pain can have on everything - everyone else expects any painkiller to work and then it all gets better.

The English Garden is definitely worth a visit, we unexpectedly came across this and spent a long time watching them all have fun!

Hofbrauhaus is a must.

we took a train to Neuschwanstein Castle – Germany's fairytale castle, well worth a visit if you have a day to spare.

If you’re able to cycle take a cycle tour, you’ll see and learn so much more.

Most importantly enjoy yourself 😊
