Finally off Pred

Suffererc profile image
18 Replies

Have not taken any Pred for 2 weeks. I feel good but very tired all the time. No pain related to PMR just a constant back ache for which I am to see a consultant 1 September. Paracetamol keeps under control.

Hopefully I have cracked it.

Thank you all for your help especially PMRpro and Dorset Lady and all for advice given. Will stay on the forum for a good while I expect.

Thank you all

Good to hear, long may it continue -would say adrenals are still struggling so just make sure you continue to carry your steroid card -and few tablets on you in case you find yourself in a stressful situation and can take a dose if you need.

You need to remember your adrenals are not fully functioning so may not dash to your aid as normal.

Hopefully you won’t find yourself in that situation-but best to be prepared.

Good - and hopefully it stays that way! Your adrenals will catch up properly sooner or later.

Well done for reaching Club Zero , it is one of those milestones. It's not surprising that you still feel tired , you may be off the medication but you are still in the recovery phase and it can a year to feel Completely like yourself again.

It's even more important while you are building back your strength to pace your activity , reduce stress. and gradually build up physical exercises to prevent the chance of triggering any pain issues , not just PMR/ GCA.

Good luck and take care , Bee

That’s great , how long did it take for you to get off them ?

Thankyou. 5.5 years. Could have perhaps been a bit soon, but had surgery and consultant said to stay on them. He put me on a high dose after op and I think that did it. Hopefully wiped out the PMR. GP wouldn’t let me go to a higher dose after a flare. So now all good 🤞🤞🤞😊

"Hopefully wiped out the PMR"

Unfortunately all the pred does is mop up the inflammation - it has no effect on the actual disease process at all as far as is known. That is an underlying autoimmune disorder where the immune system cannot recognise body as self so it attacks various body tissues as of they are foreign invaders. It does usually eventually burn out though.

I’m 4 years in so hopefully it will burn out and we feel normal again 🤞

Your post gives me hope as I am 5+ years in myself. Hope you stay off pred but glad to hear you are sticking around.
