moving pain

I am on my 3rd day of prednisolone, 20 mg after being diagnosed with pmr. Although I am experiencing less pain and stiffness than before the pain seems to vary where to attack. Yesterday it was only my shoulders and upper arms and today it’s only my left hip and thigh. Is this a thing??

May---be. You've only been on pred three days, give it at least a week for things to settle. I have a vague recollection that I had some odd, but transitory sensations during my first few days. Provided the pain you feel is gradually becoming less, that means things are trending in the right direction.

Please don't overdo things. Some of us feel so much better once we start pred we jump right in and do too much and make it much harder for pred to do its thing.

thank you for that advice. I must admit I have been doing a lot the last couple of days mainly due to the teachers strike so more grandkids duty. Will try to take things easier.

I hope you enjoy your grandkids! But when they aren't around, don't try to keep up with everything else.

It can be this early in the process. And whatever you do - rest! It isn't just the pred you need, you have to give your body a chance to heal too.

As the saying goes “Rome wasn’t built in a day “.

I was three weeks on my initial dose, before getting about 90% relief, but I also had to learn the hard way about not trying to do too much.

Some get fairly instant relief, others less so, with more time needed. Whatever, don’t stress about it! This Forum has so much good advice from very experienced people, as well as via the Frequently Asked Questions.

Good luck.

It is definitely “ a thing. “ Never know which bit is going to be playing up from one day to the next.

Starting Pred gave me instant relief and at least allowed me to move again. I don't think I was pain free for a few weeks.

I found keeping a pain diary recorded the slow improvements after pred was finally prescribed but my recovery certainly wasn’t instant. Looking back at those diary entries now I see that I felt so much improved that by day 6 I cleared out a shed! i learned then that PMR is an unforgiving companion and insists on being shown respect. Take it steady, best wishes Chrissie
