I'm wondering if any fellow p.m.r sufferer's out there have heard of 'waking up the adrenals'I'm keen to find out if it's true and what the advantages this process could have on our health.
I'm currently tapering my prednisone dose slowly after 13 months on this medication.
Appreciate any advice. Thanks

Yes we have heard of “ waking up the Adrenals” and discuss it often on here. You could have a look at FAQs to find out more about it. A slow taper is the main way that this is done. After 2-3 weeks of Pred our own production of Cortisol switched off because there is ample in the system. After Pred treatment is nearing the end and we are at the low doses 5 mgs or less we facilitate the recovery by doing a very slow taper of half a mg every few weeks. At this stage we can have our cortisol levels tested by a simple blood test that the GP can do. An Endocrinologist can help if recovery is problematic, sometimes by the introduction of hydrocortisone. It is not harmful and is essential to recovering good health. In my view wonder drugs advertised on the internet are quackery.
