Skin rash due to prednisolone?

Hi coming up to a year on Pred and on 5 mg one day 4 mg the next. Was going well but now have some kind of fungal infection around top half of my body. Not all over but enough to be uncomfortable and itchy. Been given some topical steroid treatment but not keen on using it. Has anyone else had similar infection and any advice? Thank you

Did you get an explanation as to why it is thought to be fungal rather than allergy or anything else? If it was treated as fungal, are you sure the cream is just a steroid as it ought to be anti fungal as well? Often they come as a combo. Just sticking steroid cream on a fungal rash will suppress the redness but it won’t get rid of the fungus.

While where here it might be with adding it is quite common at lower levels of Pred for complaints to crop up here of a mysterious resurgence or start of allergy symptoms of all sorts. I was the same and had skin issues, gut intolerances, hay fever etc. it settled eventually.

Many thanks. I checked with the pharmacist and it is a combo cream and definitely fungal rash . They said to use it for 2 days after it disappearsThank you for your reassurance about lower doses and strange occurrences! Definitely happening to me. Good to know. Just assume with a lower dose and after a year that my body would be used to it. Very strange condition. Will definitely taper very slowly though as don't want the dreaded adrenal crisis.

Thanks again

When I taper I sometimes get a rash on my chest and top of my arms. It goes eventually.

I’ve been on Prednisolone for more than 2 years , but some time ago had a persistent itch in one breast I was checked for lumps ,but nothing was found. This was followed by a pain down both upper arms . One of the Drs in the practice said it was thrush in the breast tissue , and prescribed an anti fungal cream. Within a week the pains had abated. I’m certain the fungal infection was linked to Prednisolone. I’d never heard of anything like this before. I still occasionally feel an itch and treat it with anti fungal cream. There’s never been any sign of a rash. I hope this helps you to know that other people on steroids have numerous strange side effects from the drug. Such is life on steroids …..
