I am back with GGA PMR

Seven years after I first had GCA I am having a flare. Just when I thought it was all over too. I was carted off to a and e with a gastric bug and given hydrcortisone and anti biotics etc. The fever passed, guts started to settle down, sick dayrules 10mg pred, but the inflamatory markers kept on going up and headache from hell. This was of course a different hospital from the one where my rheumatologist practises. So put on 40mg pred, booked for ultrasound which showed arteries OK, which it should after 10 days on 40mg. Now on 20mg for 14 days and then a slow taper.I am weirdly stiff and have a whole lot of familiar GGA symptoms, some of which I think I may have been ignoring for some weeks. It is really disappointing, for weeks I have been telling myself my only remaining problems are the osteoporosis and the adrenal insufficiency.

This is really a howl of rage, why now? We are just about to celebrate 50 years of marriage, me looking like a hampster and unable to walk in a straight line!l

So sorry to hear about this….what a pity you didn’t realise it could be GCA earlier - might have saved having to start again on high dose. But it is what it is…..

Hopefully you can get things under control swiftly - and congrats in your upcoming 50th anniversary…just be please you’ve reached that milestone 💐 [despite the hamster look]
