Blurred vision

Hi all, I've been on pred for 9 months, currently stuck at 12mg, after big flare going from 11 down to 10mg.I experienced the foggy head at 15mg, but on reducing , I've been pretty free of symptoms and side effects( and able to work full time and keep physically active).

In the last few weeks, I have experienced blurry vision, fuzzy head, lots of little spots on my torso and frequent urination during the night.

Are these likely to be pred side effects - have others with pmr and using pred experienced these ?

Many thanks for any info and advice fellow sufferers

Cheers

Hello Cromboy. Blurred vision can be a side effect of prednisolone/ cataracts but please don’t ignore this symptom in the hope that it will just go away. Without wishing to alarm you I advise you to make an appointment for an eye test as soon as possible as blurred vision may be a precursor of giant cell arteritis and possible loss of vision. Ask for an OCT scan (optical coherence tomography) which will give a clear assessment of your eye health and guide what you should do next which could range from nothing at all to to asking your GP for an urgent referral to a specialist.

Hello, as 123-go says, get an eye test. You may have cataracts from Pred apart from a long list of other issues not just due to Pred. As for urination, worth seeing a doc to rule out various things like prostate issues, infection or diabetes to name a few. I don’t think it’s as simple as just pointing at Pred as the direct cause and carrying on.

What sort of spots are they?

Really is something to check with the GP. Have you been monitored for diabetes - that is the first thing that came to mind for me.

Agree with PMRpro - as others have said blurriness can be Pred side effect but frequent urination points towards diabetes...

The morning after I started taking 60 MG PRED for my GCA, I had blurry vision. 7 months later, it's only gotten worse. So for me, I'm chalking it up to a PRED side effect.
