Help to find PMR Rheumatologist in Essex

I would like to find a Rheumy who understands PMR near Havering outer London/Essex as my GP had decided my PMR is better as my blood tests are normal and PMR only lasts two years. I am back to square one with all the typical pain and she doesn’t want me on pred any more because of the side affects. Would like to see an expert now for more help thanks everyone for any help

Is that only NHS or is a single private consultation an option?

Rod Hughes - NHS at St Peters and private at the adjacent Runnymede

Unfortunately the contact details there seem to have problems, His secretary Jodi Evans is still available on this phone number I believe.

Someone here suggested a rheumy at Romford hospital: Dr Omar Farooqui (check spelling as a similar doctor is in another London hospital). Another person suggested Charlotte Wing in Watford (I have no further details). I have no experience of either but would be in touch with the Romford hospital if I need help.

That was me. I see him at Queens hospital. I was referred to the hospital years ago. I’ve been seeing this particular doctor for three years.

I’ve just read this reply. I can’t find Omar farooqui or a name like it listed at queens. Have I spelled it right. I will ask my doc to refer me or if possible perhaps privately if possible. I have felt terrible today

He left Queens months ago. It would be great to know where he’s gone. His secretary said he was taking a break the last I heard. I haven’t seen a rheumy for 2 years now.

unfortunately he left Queens hospital months ago. All his patients were upset according to his secretary. At the time he was taking a complete break but would love to know if he has gone somewhere else. He is a diamond. X

I can highly recommend my Rheumatologist. He works at Broomfield Hospital for the NHS and privately at Springfield Hospital Chelmsford and The Nuffield at Brentwood. He might also be at The Hartswood Brentwood too.

Dr Peddasomyajula (known as Dr Mani by his patients). I am under him via NHS and have had PMR since 2016. Saw him first in 2017 and still see him every 6 months as still on low dose of steroids. He seems to know his stuff and doesn't make you feel small. He's also very willing to work from symptoms rather than blood tests alone. He listens and answers all my endless questions. He also considers how other things may be impacting pain levels.

Obviously under NHS I only get short consults but he never rushes. That does mean sometimes he runs late but that's a small price to pay.

I know he is well thought of amongst his colleagues as I seen two other specialists privately recently, different specialties but both of whom were complimentary about him.

I think it's definitely an individual thing with relationships with Consultants. I was luck to get him on NHS.

He holds an NHS PMR Clinic on Thursdays at Broomfield. Have a check online for Queens in Romford as I think that Broomfield, Queens and Southend Hospitals are all in the same Trust.

Perhaps the way to go would be to ask your GP to refer you to him via NHS. While you are waiting, if you can afford it, maybe book a private consultation and then if you like him you could ask him to put you on his NHS list. I think this is possible but not 100% sure so check that out first.

This happened once with me with an Oral Surgeon. My dentist referred me on NHS but warned I would have a very long wait. So I saw him privately via my Health insurance and then he transferred me to his NHS list.

Hope it works out for you.
