can I ask of those that have experienced sight loss, has this been since your GCA diagnosis (and possibly already getting treatment) or was it part of the problem(s) that made you seek help….if you get what I mean ?
I have had a “lazy” eye since birth, with limited vision (can’t see in detail) the other is fine so I’m terrified of losing any sight!
if I’m taking prednisolone since my GCA diag will I always have this possibility lurking over my head?
Thanks all

Mine was due to no diagnosis for 18 months [GP went off on completely different track, and never joined up the dots]....
so it was a major part of the eventual diagnosis - hospital A&E/ER.
Provided your GCA is under control at all times , there is no reason why you will lose sight, but it of course is always a possibility until you go into remission.
But don't spend all your time fretting about, just be aware of any flare ups, and act quickly IF you get any sight disturbances...
but I fully appreciate your concerns as you have limited vision.
I have had eye problems since I was a child and have also worried about my sight. When I was diagnosed with GCA the consultant at the Eye Infirmary told me that because I had been taking a high dose of prednisolone for more than a week the chance of losing my sight went right down from about 30% to 3%.
Lost sight in right eye before diagnosis.Never had severe headaches.Went to retina specialist that I see on a regular basis. He quickly suspected GCA and sent me to hospital, but damage was done.
