I travelled from UK to New Zealand (solo) when I had GCA -on 7mg - absolutely fine. Business class so well looked after -just request special assistance when booking. Make sure she carries medication in hand luggage and copy of prescription or list of meds.

Many have done long haul flights.

my wife is with this forum from last 1-1/2 year ,she is on steriod 10 mg . As you all motivated her to travel long flight total 18 hours ,from Washington to Bombay , believe me ,she , got no problem , and was quite comfortable, and now due to change of place , climate and social atmosphere, she is improving, , I will also like to write she had 10 injection in cold box , no airport immigration took any objection .

thanks everyone 🙏.

Glad to hear it. It is quite common apparently for people from the north of England with rheumatic disease to go into remission when they go home to the subcontinent!

I have just travelled to Australia from the U.K. Business Class , a stopover and airport assistance were the life savers. My Rheumatologist advised that I wear thigh high support stockings as we are slightly more in danger of DVT. I drank only water and chose very light bland foods from the menu. Good luck with your trip! Take spare Prednisalone and a copy of your prescription and your medication in carry on baggage.

I’m sorry to be so late replying but I have been out of reach. You have received very good advice from previous replies. I have not taken flights of that length- only 5 hours but have been fine.

My rheumatologist has always advised me to go immediately to an hospital emergency if I were to develop any vision problems and let them know you have GCA.

ENJOY YOUR TRIP.
