Should I hold my nose when I jump?

Well, four years and two months after I started this GCA journey, today is (I hope) the first day of the rest of my life. Today is the day I won't be taking any pred, having spent eight weeks on half a mg.

Fingers crossed it’s all okay. ..but if you do feel a bit odd might be wise to slowly taper from 0.5mg to zero rather than a sudden stop.

Do remember not every little twinge is PMR…good luck

Thanks for that, if I get any problems I'll do that.

Hi… I’m in the same position having had PMR for over 3 years. and have also been on 1/2mg for about 8 weeks. You’re braver than me as I think I’ll do alternate days on 1/2 and see how that goes. Sending you all best wishes and good luck.

More sensible approach..or a slower taper increasing the number of zero days week by week…

Great news!! You're braver than I am, I'd be going to 0.25mgs, alternating with 0.5mgs, but I'm a chicken 🐔!!! All the best!

Really hope you manage without any symptoms. Good Luck

I took a year to go from 1mg to zero and did include the 1/4mg in the taper. That was 4 1/2 years from diagnosis. Managed six months with no pred then flared a bit so did 5mg for a couple of days then stopped again. I'm also on MTX although down to 10mg weekly and people with rheumatoid arthritis on that, use short bursts of pred when flares happen. Another flare when I stopped the MTX for the covid booster but I treated that in the same way. Hoping to have less flares as time passes and weather here warms. (in Oz) We'll get there eventually.

Hi, once I got to 10mg I reduced by 1mg every 4 weeks, then once I got to 5 mg it was reducing by half a mg every 8 weeks
