shingles vaccination
As long as you make sure you get the Shingrix vaccine - now the only one available in the USA and available at request in the UK for patients on pred - you should get it as it still provides protection against developing shingles. Do NOT accept the older Zostavax vaccine.
Hi, I am in Scotland and have had both Shingles Vaccinations. Both were Shingrix. Knowing how nasty Shingles can be I was pleased to be offered the vaccination.
My advice would be to have the Shingrix vaccine. (In U.K. for those 70 or older having an autoimmune disease, such as PMR.) Yes your immune system is dampened, but it’s proportional to the dose of Pred (I believe) and in any event I’m happier to have had the 2 doses of Shingrix as I have grandchildren.
The Shingrix vaccination for shingles is a two part 'non-live' vaccination injected eight weeks apart and suitable for people taking Prednisolone. When you attend for the first injection they should ask about any medication you are taking - if not tell them!
Had my first injection in June and waiting now for my second in August.
