What dose of pred are you on? If you are over 7mg you should not have to worry. You should only have to worry about an adrenal crisis if you suddenly dropped say for example from 7mg to zero. Acute adrenal crisis is a medical emergency caused by a lack of cortisol. One might experience lightheadedness or dizziness, weakness, sweating, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, or even loss of consciousness. Also blood pressure and sugar leveld would drop, in fact you would need to call 999. Are you talking about adrenal insufficiency, as opposed to an adrenal crisis?

If you reduce slowly you should be fine. You may get very tired at lower doses, but you should not get an adrenal crisis.

I have adrenal insufficiency from taking prednisone for 3 years. I only have to take 25 mg of hydrocortisone each daywhich is equivalent to just a tiny bit more then 5mg prednisone. The symptoms of a crisis are nausea, vomiting and low blood pressure. Some people also get a headache. And it comes on very quickly. I've only had one in the year I've had AI and I treated it by taking a double dose of hydrocortisone. But I also have a steroid injection that I can take if I can't keep a tablet down.
