They are an opiod drug - if they are being offered for PMR pain the likelihood of them helping is minimal but they might help with other pain. They have some of the other downsides of opiods although dependency is less common except in long term use (over 3 months and then you have to taper as with oral drugs).

Yes, I know, will give them a go for ??Bursitis

Hmm - why not treat the CAUSE of the pain if it is bursitis? If it is bursitis it may be due to the PMR - and either a bit more pred or (better) steroid injections to combat the inflammation. There are also stretches that should help. Icing over the sore area for 20 mins at a time is also recommended.

Thanks, I’m using ice and doing stretches, neither of which have really helped, but I’ll keep going with them. Yes , perhaps a steroid injection would have been a better option, but I’m only on 5 , so will give it a go

I have the same problem, have done for months and totally fed up with it. Instead of giving me an injection he decided he wanted to use his fancy soundwave therapy toy. Which is fine, it works and no side effects or risks, but i had to wait 2 months for the first appt then another 6 weeks for the first treatment and now have to wait 2 months for the third. That'll be the entire summer gone not able to walk far ...

Do you think it’s helping?

I have Butec Patches on now for my Stage 4 Osteoarthritis in my hip. 6 months in and managing on dosage of Butec 20. I started on 5.

May I ask which dose they have given you? Also my understanding is they are prescribed for Chronic pain , I’m not sure Bursitis would be classed as that.

They also make me dozy especially when first applied each week.

I also take a Laxido sachet alternative days to help keep constipation at bay.

Margaret.

I am on 5, I have tried all sorts of painkillers, gel, tens, ice, heat, rest exercise, nothing was helping. I can’t do anything, have had to give up all my classes. Am waiting for results from rheumatologist, X-rays and bloods.

Thanks
