Update on tapering journey

I have now reached week 5 on 10mg and feeling okay. Getting ready to start tapering to 9mg from this Sunday using DL taper plan. I spoke to my GP yesterday and she is totally agreeable to let me decide how I want to reduce pred. In fact she actually said that I know my own body and I am the best person to decide. If any problems arise I must ring her and discuss them.

Hopefully will get to 9mg by the end of June as I am going on holiday on 1st July and really looking forward to it. Fingers crossed everything will go okay.

Good to hear -but you might want to consider tapering by 0.5mg -if not straight away then as you get a little lower when you get to the level adrenals need to start working again. Does vary, but around 7-8mg.

..and don’t even think about reducing just before or when on holiday. If you are part way through taper, just tread water for the week(s) you are away…a fortnight here or there is nothing in the great scheme of things.

Just enjoy holiday.

I echo DL's comment - stress comes in all forms and even a long awaited holiday can be stressful! Don't force your way with the taper just because you want to be at a given dose for the holiday - you will enjoy it a lot more if you haven't rocked the boat :)

I would echo DorsetLady. I went from 10 to 9 and after a few days started to feel the tell-tale signs. Went back to 10 for a while the reduced to 9.5 and all was well.

Many thanks for all your thoughts. On reflection I think that I will take your advice and reduce to 9.5mg and then if all goes well I can further reduce to 9mg on my return from holiday. Fingers crossed

Sounds a good idea…

After frequent failures to get below 10mg I would always go for 1/2 mg reduction
